In Leinfelden-Echterdingen there was a chimney fire in a hotel on Filderbahnstrasse on Friday evening, which led to a large fire department being called out. The fire alarm system was triggered at around 9.30 p.m., whereupon the fire brigade, rescue service and police were immediately alerted. When they arrived, the emergency services noticed heavy sparks flying in the roof area of the hotel, which indicated a chimney fire.
The good news: Around 150 guests had already left the hotel before the first firefighters arrived. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries and no significant material damage was left.
Evacuation and support
In total, around 75 people had to be evacuated and temporarily accommodated. A nearby restaurant not only provided space, but also the necessary care from emergency services. Thanks to this solidarity support, all those affected were able to receive care quickly. The fire department was on site with 15 vehicles and 57 emergency services, while the rescue service provided support with six vehicles and twelve emergency services.
In order to provide the emergency services with optimal working conditions, the nearby bus station was closed until around 11 p.m. while the fire was being extinguished. Road users were redirected locally to ensure that emergency vehicles arrived smoothly. Such coordinated measures show once again how important a quick and well-planned response to emergencies is.
