Safe contact points for children: New Kelly island certificate in Kirchheim!
The Kelly Island Association has gratifying news for all parents and children in Kirchheim Unter Teck. On June 23, 2025, the certificates for the safe contact points in the city were renewed. This initiative, which plays an important role in child protection, offers children and adolescents a safe place in emergency situations. [Kirchheim-teck.de]
All shops and public institutions are now cordially invited to register for the new Kelly Island certificate. The special thing about it? It signals that the respective point of contact offers a trusting environment for young people. The city administration asks both the previous and interested new locations to fill out a "voluntary self -assessment" and to send it to the city administration. Incidentally, this information can be found on the urban website, where the required form is available.
a sign of protection
The idea behind the Kelly Islands is simple, but effective. Young people should be protected, be it on school, sports or in their free time. The contact points can be found in various shops and facilities and offer safe refuge in critical moments. After a positive examination by the police, the new certificate will be awarded to the corresponding locations. [wikipedia.org]
The project was launched after a tragic incident in 2000 when a little girl was murdered in Filderstadt. Former Prime Minister Lothar Späth was the patron of the project, which was called up in cooperation with the Alexandra-Sophia Foundation and the police. The motto "Kelly-Island-I help you" clearly shows the goal: Citizens should be sensitized to civil courage and stimulated to work for others.
comparison with other projects
The Kelly Islands are not the only safe contact points in Germany. The "Not island" project is another remarkable concept that was initiated in 2002 by the German Child Protection Foundation Hänsel+Gretel. Here, too, children are offered opportunities to find refuge in emergency situations, and over 16,600 shops and institutions support this important initiative. [youth welfare portal.de]
At both projects, you can see how important it is to build a strong network of supporters to offer children and adolescents security. The emergency islands have the goal of creating 25,000 locations across Germany by 2030, while the Kelly Islands now have over 3,000 locations across Germany, of which around 2,000 in the Esslingen district.
With the renewed certification, another sign is set in Kirchheim under Teck: Child protection is very important here, and everyone can be part of this important initiative. So if you want to make a contribution, you should not hesitate to apply for the so -called certificate - because behind every parking lot, every business can be a place where help and protection are offered.
