Drama at Lake Aileswasen: Missing swimmer remains untraceable!
On the Pentecost weekend, a tragic incident in the Aileswasensee in the Esslingen district caused a stir. A swimmer is missing after passers-by saw him calling for help and sinking shortly afterwards at around 2.30pm on Sunday. Despite an extensive search operation that included emergency services from the fire department, police and DLRG, the man remains untraceable. The Stuttgarter Nachrichten report that the search measures have now been stopped because there is no evidence of his whereabouts.
Lake Aileswasen was examined in detail using a sonar device and with the professional support of the DLRG. This also used the most modern technologies to get to the bottom of what happened on Whit Monday. The detailed search included analyzing images and creating a 3D model of the body of water to investigate possible abnormalities. Nevertheless, the entire effort did not produce any new findings, which was also confirmed by DLRG operations manager Christian Fritz.
Bathing ban remains in effect
As a result of what happened, Lake Aileswasensee remains closed for the time being. The municipal administration of Neckartailfingen has not yet provided any information about when the bathing ban will be lifted. This measure serves the safety of bathers, as the DLRG emphasizes.
The RB 300 diving robot, which was also considered for the search, was ultimately not used. The technology, which is ready for use in just three minutes and is equipped with a rotating gripper arm and high-resolution cameras, could not be activated due to a lack of evidence. Overall, the DLRG emergency services worked continuously on the situation and evaluated the possible next steps in order to advance the search.
Public interest and concern
Police spokesman Michael Schaal expressed concern about the situation. No further action was taken by the police as so far there is no evidence of an actual swimming accident and no missing person has been officially reported. There were no objects found on the bank that could indicate an accident, which leads to the assumption that no one actually drowned, according to [reporting by Mein Stuttgart](https://mein-stuttgart.com/posts/esslingen/neckartailfingen/suchaktion-am-aileswasensee- Tauchroboter-soll-vermisssten-schwimmer-finder).
In this context, the DLRG continues to keep its important tasks in mind. The water rescue service is not only limited to Lake Aileswasen, but also plays a central role in the safety of visitors in other bodies of water, especially during the bathing season. The DLRG offers continuous support in order to react quickly in emergencies and to guarantee the well-being of bathers.
