Bicycle demo between Ditzingen and Leonberg: Together for safe ways!
On July 7, 2025, a considerable bike demo of the Greens took place, which led from Ditzingen to Gerlingen to Leonberg. Around 130 cyclists took part in this campaign, the motto of which was "three cities together for better connections". The aim of the demonstration was to draw attention to the defects in the cycling infrastructure and to demand urgently needed improvements. According to [Stuttgarter Nachrichten] (https://www.stuttgarter-nachrichten.de/inhalt.von-ditzingen-bis-leonberg-zwerad-fuer-sers-bike paths.52632b9c-1f4e86-a8df-9c6ff3143150.html) in city centers and dangerous intersections as problematic points.
The inadequate space for cyclists and the lack of safe connections between the municipalities were particularly criticized. Many cycle paths are in poor condition, too narrow or do not exist. The demonstration also contained rallies in front of the town halls in Ditzingen, Gerlingen and Leonberg, where the city heads were expected. The ZDF-Heute reports that Germany should become a bicycle country by 2030, but there are large regional differences in expanding the bike paths. Many places are still torn between the old traffic structures and the needs of the cyclists.
discussion about dangerous cycle paths
A central theme of the bike demo was the bike path between Ditzingen and Gerlingen, which was described as dangerous and unsuitable. The Greens State Member Markus Rösler and Peter Seimer were also concerned about the safety of cyclists in the discussion: inside. The focus is particularly on the importance of bicycle for children and adolescents, which makes the demand for child -friendly traffic planning all the more urgent.
More and more people use the bike for short distances, especially in the inner -city area. This requires a quick adjustment of the infrastructure, which has been focused far too much on car traffic in recent decades. It becomes clear that a rethink is necessary to improve the quality of life in the cities and at the same time increase traffic safety.
cycling promotion at the political level
The 2002 national bicycle traffic plan sets the long -term goal that cycling in Germany should become more secure and more attractive. In this way, the number of bicycle kilometers could be increased by 2030. The national cycle traffic plan 3.0 provides for four pillars to promote cycling promotion: politics, infrastructure, humans and business. There is a consensus that the federal government, the federal states and the municipalities have to work together to create a complete cycling network.
Around 350 million euros are planned for 2025, which is a noticeable reduction compared to previous years. A study shows that a doubling of bicycle traffic could also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. So there is still a lot of room for improvement to achieve the goals of the cycling plan.
The bike demo has not only taken up local topics, but also initiated a major discussion about the condition and future of the cycling infrastructure in Germany. Everyone involved agrees: more for the safety and promotion of bicycle traffic must be done!
