Young lifeguards show their skills at Baden championships!

Ettlingen, Deutschland - An exciting weekend is imminent for the lifeguards in Ettlingen. On June 30, 2025, around 700 young athletes gathered for the 47th Baden championships in life swimming in the Albgaubad. Under the patronage of the Mayor Johannes Arnold and organized by the local DLRG group, the competition promises both athletic top performance and an impressive community experience.

The event is expected with great enthusiasm, especially from the domestic swimmers Enna, Lotta and Emma, who want to call up their best performances with the home advantage from their usual training environment. There is a varied competition program on the plan, which includes classic swimming, among other things - with and without fins - and pull the doll and the towing of crashes with belt ridges. On Sunday the individual race follows "Super-Lifesaver", which combines several disciplines and puts the skills of the participants to the test.

individual services and teamwork

trainer Dominique Endler was impressed by the achievements of her protégés. "The girls have achieved significantly better times today than in training," she praises the athletes. Emma emphasizes that for them not only counts, but above all the technology is decisive. The two teammates Lotta and Enna also have special preferences: Lotta loves the long distances with obstacles, while Enna sees their strength in the rescue doll. These individual tendencies show how diverse the competition is designed and that every swimmer can bring in his special talents.

A smooth running of the competition is crucial. Therefore, 80 committed helpers are deployed as a judge who not only measure the times, but also pay attention to compliance with the rules. "The rules are important to ensure fairness and security during the competitions," explains Markus Bührer, head of the arbitral tribunal. Patrick Freis, the Rödelleiter and himself for over 20 years active member of the DLRG, ensures that the obstacles and dolls are in the water in good time. He has brought himself particularly strongly into the Ettlingen local group, especially after the indoor pool in Wettersbach was closed.

The challenge of young talent work

But despite all the preparations there is a dark shadow that hovers over the championships: the DLRG Ettlingen is fighting like many other local groups with young problems. It is an important concern to inspire young people for the rescue swimming training and to bring them closer to the necessary swimming badges. These badges, including the bronze, silver and gold badge, are of central importance for training and document the skills in the water. It is also recommended to get used to the water before purchasing these badges.

For the lifeguards in Ettlingen, the competition is more than just a sporting event. He stands for the commitment, social skills and the common goal of being ready in emergencies. The event will not only promote professional services, but also produce new pool heroes that are needed in the community.
