Ettlingen defies the heat: Lions Club hiking day brings joy despite the lack of participants!
A hot summer day did not discourage the number of participants at the Lions Club's charity hiking day in Ettlingen. On June 30, 2025, around 60 enthusiastic hikers gathered in Horbachpark to hike for a good cause and brave the heat of over 30 degrees. The organizers had originally expected up to 200 participants, but the actual registration was 36 people who could take part in the event for 20 euros each. Participation was free for children under 17.
The Lions Club put a lot of effort into preparing the event and provided participants with free food, snacks, refreshments and the coveted “Hike’n’Help T-shirts”. The proceeds from this charity hiking day will specifically benefit special education and counseling centers in Karlsruhe and Ettlingen. The organizers are confident and plan to firmly establish the event in Ettlingen in the coming years.
Diverse hikes and enthusiasm
Three different hiking routes were offered to the participants, all of which led through the picturesque surroundings:
- „Mini, die Spielplatzrunde“ (3 km)
- „Midi, die Ettlinger Bergziege“ (7 km; hier konnte auch der Bismarckturm bestiegen werden)
- „Maxi, die Ettlinger Linien Runde“ (knapp 13 km)
Despite the smaller number of participants, the opinions among the hikers were positive. Many expressed their joy about the organization and the pleasant atmosphere during the event. To further liven up the hike, various quiz questions were asked about local attractions and tours, which promoted community building among the participants.
The Lions Club: commitment beyond borders
The Lions Club doesn't just have big plans in Ettlingen. In Tegernsee, progress has been made in the renovation of the psalling choir, for which a sum of 1.5 million euros is being invested by the Kreissparkasse. Here too, donations, including 5,000 euros from the Tegernsee Lions Club, are being used for the work. The Lions Club is involved in another event, the Seefest in Rottach-Egern, for the 35th time and offers a wide range of food and drinks. All proceeds from this event go to important aid projects in the region, including supporting needy families and other social institutions.
The active participation and support through events, be it in Ettlingen or Tegernsee, underlines the Lions Clubs' commitment to doing good and helping people in need. Planning for next year is already in full swing and there is still hope for an even higher number of participants on the next hike.
