These savings are to be achieved in various areas, and the municipal council has scheduled a decisive session for Monday, in which a detailed savings list is to be decided.

In the coming months, things will go high in the municipal council. The mayor Dietmar Späth already presented the planned austerity measures in mid -June. The cultural sector and social offers will also have to go through a strict savings program.

saving measures in detail

A closer look at the planned savings shows that the city cannot be squeamish at the city theater and the city museum. The city theater has to save 1.1 million euros, while the closure of the city museum is on the prank list. In addition, a further amount of 370,000 euros is to be saved by reducing a department.

As part of the household consolidation, a planned increase in taxes was also discussed. According to the Staatsanzeiger, property tax is to increase by 15 percent. In addition, there are increases in the fees for the tourism contribution and the tourist tax, which will be noticeably beaten in the citizens' wallet.

Future view and further steps

These measures are part of a comprehensive budget consolidation that goes beyond the current election period. The municipal council plans to reduce the number of mandates from the 2029 election period from 40 to 32. Stadtwerke is also to be trimmed for profitability, which will go hand in hand with less public passenger transport (public transport) and higher admission prices, according to the analysis of [taxpayers] (https://www.steuerzahler.de/kommunen/konsolidation Auflaege/?l=0).

It remains to be seen how the discussions in the local council will be going on from the end of June. The citizens of Baden-Baden are called up to continue to actively contribute to the issues of financial policy in order to improve the framework conditions for everyone and to take the decisions with a critical look. There is definitely something!
