Summer bathing pleasure: Konstanz 'popular diving tower bridge
Konstanz, Deutschland - Summer time is bathing time - this also applies to the sunny days in Constance. In the city on Lake Constance, the curved bicycle bridge, which spans the Seerhein, captivates not only cyclists, but also water rats. This bridge is a popular starting point for young people who want to dare into the cool water. The bridge has unofficially established itself as a diving tower, which further heats up the relaxed atmosphere on the water. The fact that the bathing area is located in the Herosé Park, a piece of leisure paradise in the city, ensures a pleasant change from everyday work and makes the area a favorite destination of many local and visitors.
The Herosé Park itself has a lot to offer. The park extends between the Seerhein, the Road on the Rheinufer and the Reichenaustraße in Konstanz ’Petershausen district. On the area, which was previously characterized by the Herosé textile printing shop, play equipment, barbecue areas and cozy seating for relaxing hours outdoors can be found today. Particularly gratifying: the park is accessible to everyone - without turnstile or access restrictions. In this way, up to 15,000 cyclists can use the fortified path that connects the old town with the right bank of the Rhine.
The soul of water
The Seerhein has a very special charm with its calm water. Many describe swimming there as liberating and fantastic, perfectly suitable for a refreshing splash. There is also a tempting option for the brave swimmers: you could easily swim on the other side of the Rhine with a little skill. British journalist Elaine Morgan even developed a theory that says that life in shallow water positions has played an important role in the development of modern people.
And even if the smell of garbage and pomposing the nose sometimes tickles, the general atmosphere in the park is still relaxed. Here joggers, cyclists and walkers mix with the bathers, and there is a lively hustle and bustle that gives the summer very own flair.
A look at the infrastructure
The bicycle bridge itself is a prime example of modern engineering. It was opened in 1991 and has established itself as an indispensable connection between Schottenstraße on the left side of the Rhine and Petershauser Straße on the right. In 2023, the municipal utilities counted impressive 3,357,531 trips, which corresponds to a daily average of around 9,199 cyclists. With a total length of 163.38 meters and a width of 8.2 meters, it offers space for a lively exchange between pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge was designed so that it is also designed for emergency vehicles up to 12 tons. The fresh renovation of the covering in 2015 contributed to the fact that it still appears safe and inviting today.
Overall, it can be seen that the Herosé Park and the associated bicycle bridge give the summer a special note in Constance. The mixtures of leisure activities and a touch of urban life create a distinctive atmosphere that captivates both locals and visitors.
