Ulm in a frenzy of innovation: Students present brilliant ideas!
On June 13, 2025, on a bright day, the third edition of the “Technikon” took place in Ulm, the innovative event of the StartupSÜD association. Under the motto “Develop ideas. Solve problems. Shape the future.” Young talented students from various universities came together to develop creative solutions to numerous challenges. The Ulm University of Technology, the University of Ulm, the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design, the Aalen University and the Biberach University were represented and showed their commitment to the region.
The event offered participants the opportunity to work on a total of six challenges. Particularly noteworthy are the topics of the revitalization of the Ulm Lederhof and innovative concepts for interior greenery. The organizing team at Ulm University of Technology was enthusiastic about the potential of the region and the promising ideas of the participants.
Awards for best ideas
A large part of the event was dedicated to pitching. The best projects were honored. The “Clean & Eat” team won the title for the best pitch with a concept for the Ulmer Lederhof. The prize was awarded for the best technical idea for a solution for attaching special tags to fishing nets with the aim of avoiding ghost nets. In addition, the forest reforestation concept, which combines the planting and protection of tree seedlings, was recognized as the best green/sustainable idea. The audience award went to the wristband and security concept “Luisa”, which aims to offer more security in nightlife.
The success of the Technikon can be clearly seen in the numerous creative ideas - a total of 14 final projects were presented. The challenges were diverse: They ranged from hydrogen production and storage for sustainable building energy supply to intelligent solutions to support people with disabilities through technologies such as AR glasses.
Networking and outlook
After a strenuous day, the “Get Together” gave the students the opportunity to network over a casual burger meal and discuss the practical implementation of their ideas. The upcoming events are already being planned: There will be another round of the Technikon on June 17, 2024, where 60 students will have the chance to work on seven new challenges. This shows once again that innovative strength is very popular in the region.
