From war to daycare: Yuliia's path to the new home in Aalen

Aalen, Deutschland - What have we not experienced since the beginning of the war in Ukraine? Yuliia Zhydkykh tells a touching story. She fled from Charkiw in 2022 and has been living in Aalen for over three years, where she has not only found a new home, but also a new professional path. How did you succeed? Well, she mastered the challenges with a lot of commitment.

Yuliia came to Germany in spring 2022 - initially it was only a temporary stay. But fate wanted it differently. Her escape led over several stations until she finally found accommodation in Aalen. An older lady and her daughter acted as important reference points and created a family atmosphere for the refugee woman.

a new professional path

In the meantime, Yuliia has been working as a educational force in the city day care center at the stoves in the cooking jump in Unterkochen for over a year. Her trip to everyday work began shortly after her arrival when she immediately decided to attend a German course at the adult education center. In addition, she was involved in two play groups in Aalen in the summer of 2022, initially on a voluntary basis, later with an employment contract. In late summer 2023 she moved to the said daycare center, where she works part -time and a child with increased support needs.

Simon Schmid, the head of the facility, is impressed by Yuliia's skills. "The talents that she brings, as well as her empathy and commitment are enormous enriches for our team," says Schmid. Nevertheless, the Situation is frustrating, because Yuliia needs a language level C1 for the recognition of her qualification as an educator - a hurdle that, through currently missing language courses, cannot overcome it.

The recognition system

yuliia's case is not an isolated case. Many refugee people face similar challenges when it comes to recognizing their professional qualifications. According to Recognition-in-deutschland.de , refugees can apply for the recognition of their professional qualifications regardless of their residence status or their nationality. Certain documents are usually necessary for this, such as a graduation certificate. However, if these are not available, practical evidence can help.

For Yuliia, it is an exciting challenge to also apply for recognition of your qualification. Professional qualifications are often important for the further professional course. Perhaps it could have its conclusion adapted through qualification analyzes or adaptation courses in order to get on in her professional field. Information about the necessary steps and addresses of responsible institutions offer, for example, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees is provided.

"It is important that the bureaucratic hurdles are dismantled," sums up Angelika Steinert, the deputy management of the daycare center. She emphasizes that Yuliia is making progress in the German language through her work with the children, and thus also improving her integration experience.

yuliia looks optimistically into the future and cannot be dissuaded from her goal. The work in Germany differs from that in Ukraine, especially with regard to work-life balance. But the new home not only brought her challenges, but also opportunities. Step by step she comes closer to her dream to be recognized as a full teacher.
