FDP plans: Own license plates for cities - feeling of home rediscovered!
Imagine your car driving through the country with an individual license plate combination from your hometown! This exact scenario could soon become reality if the FDP and Professor Ralf Bochert have their way. According to a current proposal put forward by Bild, cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants should be given the opportunity to have their own license plates. This has already caused quite a stir!
Over 100 cities have already expressed interest in this idea, meaning a total of 320 cities in Germany could be affected. The Hesse FDP has even submitted a proposal to the state parliament to launch a Federal Council initiative to promote this nationwide introduction. Mayors from almost 80 municipalities have contacted their state transport ministers to advocate for implementation.
Homeland ties through identification marks
Stefan Naas, the parliamentary group leader of the FDP, puts it in a nutshell: “A license plate is an expression of closeness to home.” The aim is not only to strengthen the identity of the cities, but also to bring a bit more of a sense of home into the everyday lives of citizens. The application provides for license plate liberalization in Germany and intends to change the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV). Important: There should be no additional costs for the municipalities.
But which cities could take advantage of this option? There are interesting candidates on the list in Baden-Württemberg: Albstadt (ALB), Bad Krozingen (BKR) and Rüsselsheim (RÜ) are just a few examples. But there is also great interest in other federal states - from Bavaria, where cities like Geretsried (GRD) and Herzogenaurach (HZA) are interested in their own license plate combination, to Schleswig-Holstein with Bad Schwartau (SWT) and Quickborn (Q).
It's fascinating to see how regional flair with a very personal touch could find its way onto the streets. The world of mobility seems to be moving in a new direction that makes every city dweller proud. You can find out more about the specific license plates and further information at KennzeichenKing.
