Biberach: 128 new apartments planned for decades of vacancy!

in Biberach finally happens: The former Kundrath area has started to dismantle, a project that has long been overdue. Around 128 new apartments are to be built here after the area has remained unused since the Opel dealership was closed in 2019. The investor Jan Leis, known for his projects such as the Aiden Hotel at the train station, has taken the reins in hand and promises to transform this years of vacancy into urgently needed living space, such as the Schwäbische Zeitung reported.

The area is divided into two construction projects. 87 apartments are being built on Kolpingstrasse, 83 of them being promoted. A bakery branch is planned on the ground floor to offer fresh bread right on the front door. Another 41 apartments with spacious terraces are created on Saulgauer Straße. Here, too, a commercial unit will find space on the ground floor to ensure local supply.

Promotion of living space

The demand for living space in Biberach is unbroken. In order to make the city more attractive, both companies as well as private individuals can apply for grants and loans for new construction and employment measures. Funding is particularly attractive for projects that aim at accessibility or age -appropriate conversions, as can be read on the website of the city of Biberach. This ensures that the subsidized rental living space is particularly beneficial to households with lower incomes.

But the conversion of vacancy into living space is not only important locally. Around two million apartments are empty in Germany, a state that not only has economic but also social consequences. Klara Geywitz, the Federal Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Building, has therefore launched the "action strategy vacancy activation". This strategy aims to increase the quality of life in affected regions by promoting the reusability of empty real estate. The focus is on the cooperation between municipalities, countries and the federal government to develop effective solutions, such as "https://www.bmwsb.bund.de/shahareddocs/pressemitteilungen/de/2025/01/leerstestivation.html"> Federal Government

a ray of hope for the city

The construction site on the Kundrath area is a ray of hope for many Biberacher: inside. It is planned not only to convert the former car dealerships into a modern residential project, but also to revive the old neighborhood. The dismantling, which recorded around two months ago, is accompanied by a digital 3D measure to optimize the planning.

The construction work is expected to begin in autumn 2025 if everything goes according to plan. It is hoped that this groundbreaking project will set a positive signal for urban development in Biberach and contributes to the stability of the neighborhood structures in the long term.
