Exciting tennis action at the Bad Waldseer city championships!
The Open City Championships took place in Bad Waldsee last weekend. From June 13th to 15th, the title was fought for at the tennis facilities in Haisterkirch and Gaisbeuren. With a total of 61 players taking part, the tournament became a true festival for tennis in the region. Mayor Matthias Henne, department head Uli Hörmann and sports director Holger Herbst were very satisfied with the event and thanked the chief referees Sebastian Eisele and Philipp Schultiß for their dedication.
The high temperatures of the last few days couldn't stop the athletes from delivering thrilling encounters. The championships were under the patronage of the well-known company Hymer, which gave the event additional weight. The organization fell into the hands of Uli Hörmann and Holger Herbst, who were praised by the participants for their excellent hospitality and smooth processes. A dedicated team of TA SVH members took care of the physical well-being and provided tasty catering.
Exciting games and impressive performances
The tournament offered exciting competitions in several performance classes. The final round on Sunday, in which Mayor Henne and Gerda Hymer also took part, was particularly exciting. The award ceremony took place in the presence of the chairmen of SV Haisterkirch, Kevin Steiner and Andreas Pfeiffer. The results of the different categories are remarkable:
| category | 1st place | 2nd place | 3rd place |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women (LK 1.0 to 25.0) | Marisa Barth (TC Sweets) | Jana Lutz (TA SC Quantities) | Jana Nägele (TA Sportfreunde Schwendi) and Sarah Link (TC Berkheim) |
| Men (LK 1.0 to 15.0) | Niels Heigele (TC SSV Ulm) | Dennis Kautz (TC Friedrichshafen) | Patrick Benz (TC Engstingen) and Manuel Mühlberg (TC Pliezhausen) |
| Men (LK 13 to LK 25.0) | Paul Bordt (TV Neufra) | Michael Unger (TC Hohentengen) | Tim Knödl (TA TV Mögglingen) and Armin Philpott (TC Hohentengen) |
| Men 40 (LK 5.0 to LK 25.0) | Vitali Willmann (TA KV Stuttgart) | Albert Paul (TC Bad Waldsee) | Frank Schwarz (TC Isny) and Andreas Nägele (TC Lindau) |
| Men 50 (LK 5.0 to LK 25.0) | Sebastian Schultheiss (TC Bad Waldsee) | Tobias Blaser (TC Bad Schussenried) | Oliver Bohr (TC Aitrach) |
These championships are not only a great opportunity for local players to showcase their skills, but they also help strengthen community connections. Like the district championships for active and senior citizens, which recently took place at the TC Bad Saulgau tennis facility, the city championships show that tennis is booming in the region. The players' satisfaction with the level shown is a positive indicator for further development in tennis. Famous games like the final between Adrian Grimolizzi and David Gaissert are proof that great tennis is played in Baden-Württemberg. Gaissert, who was suffering from the after-effects of a corona disease, was not able to fully perform, while Grimolizzi won the tournament and was crowned district champion.
In conclusion, it can be said that Bad Waldsee not only makes the hearts of tennis enthusiasts beat faster, but also impresses with its excellent organization, the good level of the games and the warm hospitality of the members. As with the major ATP and WTA tournaments, this also shows what tennis has to offer.
