Lipowitz drives with full steam: Brave attack at the Tour de France!
What an exciting day for cycling! Florian Lipowitz, the talented cycling professional from Ulm, has staged impressively at the second stage of the Tour de France. The 23-year-old, who is still considered a tour debut, was not afraid to accelerate 2.3 kilometers before the finish. Unfortunately, shortly before the destination, he was caught up with the favorites Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard and Mathieu van der Poel, who finally made up the stage in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
The stage, which was shaped by terrible weather conditions and started delayed, Lipowitz did not bring any further setbacks. Despite his attack, the young Ulmer was able to make his gap from the first stage of 39 seconds and not to lose any additional time. The Bora team, to which Lipowitz belongs, became more after critical voices and ensured that the athlete, together with teammate Primož Roglič, was effectively protected against losing time. Team boss Rolf Aldag explained that the team drove to safety and knew how to convince Lipowitz's performance.
The way to success
Before the tour, Lipowitz was already able to record some successes in other races. So he took the Critérum du Dauphiné third place and exceeded favorites like Remco Evenepoel by impressive 1:43 minutes. This performance had many questioned whether Lipowitz may not become one of the secret favorites of the tour. However, Aldag remains careful and warns against taking these results as a yardstick for the tour because the challenges in the mountains are far higher.
Nevertheless, Lipowitz has already demonstrated his top -class climbing technology and opportunistic attacks, which in his role as supporter of Roglič has already benefited him at Vuelta a España. Aldag emphasizes that the main goal for Lipowitz is the final arrival in Paris and the acquisition of a top 10 finish. It will be particularly exciting for him to use the chance of the white jersey, which has an incentive to him on his own ambitions of the next races.
A look at the tour
that Lipowitz, however, in the Tour de France as a debutant should not be underestimated. The average bike professional in this competition is 29.76 years old, measures about 1.81 meters and weighs an average of 67.8 kg. In the history of the tour, average weight and body height of the drivers have changed significantly since 1990 and competitive sports are today, more than ever, in the sign of records and financial challenges.
The discussion about equality in professional cycling remains up to date, and team managers like Jonathan Vaughters draw attention to the need for a “Salary Cap” to guarantee fairness in competition. But one thing is certain: Florian Lipowitz will do everything possible to consolidate his significant role in the competition and with his teammates a word to have a say in winning the victory. A good hand in the next stages could be crucial for his further way in cycling and the development of his career.
