Volunteers wanted! Laupheim Community Club offers support for mentally ill people

In Laupheim we are not only looking for solutions, but also for people who are prepared to invest a bit of their heart and soul in the community club. The association, which has existed for over 40 years, offers mentally ill people a protected space and actively brings them back into the community. The goal is clear: to overcome isolation and enable participation. Loud Schwäbische.de The community club was founded in 1982 by Hugo Maier from Caritas Biberach-Saulgau and Marianne Sproll.

As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations in 2022, the club presented its extensive offering, ranging from game evenings to excursions to festive events. An important component is the regular breakfast meeting and the club evenings, which take place every two weeks in the Catholic community center or in the meeting café. The age structure of the participants varies, with the older generation appreciating the morning offerings, while the younger participants prefer to come in the evening.

A personal support

A special highlight of the program is the open consultation hours with Mirjam Langer, which is offered at the breakfast meetings. Here members have the opportunity to discuss their concerns in a confidential setting. This initiative is aimed at people who have learned to live with their illness. Relatives and friends are also cordially invited to accompany them.

In order to be able to continue to maintain the association's valuable work, volunteer coordinator Daniela Bailer-Schöffmann is looking for new, committed helpers. The reason for this is the impending retirement of long-time supporters. The tasks range from shopping and preparing meetings to organizing transport services and accompanying you on excursions. Trial visits are offered for those interested - an ideal introduction, especially for recently retired people who still want to make a difference.

Invitation to participate

The response from the volunteers speaks for itself: many report the personal enrichment and gratitude they derive from this activity. Another important aspect is the acceptance of the participants, who can decide for themselves how and whether they want to discuss their illness publicly.

The next program items have already been decided: On November 4th we will go on a trip to the Café Canapé in Ulm. If you don't want to miss the next meeting, you should make a note of the story time with Brigitte Angele on November 18th, followed by the Kässpätzle meal on December 2nd and the Christmas party on December 16th.

Anyone interested in becoming part of this warm commitment can contact Mirjam Langer or Daniela Bailer-Schöffmann directly. A nice way to do something good not only for others, but also for yourself.
