Gruffelo inspires families: successful theater day in Weinheim!

In the colorful world of puppet show, it is like in a fairytale forest! On June 16, 2025, numerous children and families experienced on the legendary Gruffelo path an unforgettable theater day. After a disease -related break, the Grüffelo, the famous figure from the children's book, delighted its young spectators at the picturesque castle ruin Windeck. The Weinheim cultural office had invited to the theater series "Weinheim Macht Theater", and the reaction was overwhelming: Both puppet games were sold out and captivated several hundred children.

The backdrop of the castle ruins was ideal for the performance. Martin Grieb, from the Weinheim cultural office, emphasized the successful implementation of the motto "Theater in special places". Many small and large theater fans had gathered to pursue the stirring story of a little mouse that is looking for Nüssen in the forest. In order to protect itself from the hungry animals, she invents Griffelo, which in reality only exists in her imagination.

The Grüffelo path, which opened in 2022, is the first of its kind in southern Germany. With a length of about 600 meters, it leads from the stone school to the Windeck castle ruin and is freely accessible at all times. On the way, visitors can expect impressive figures that were carved by chainsaw artists Gert Hildebrandt from Odenwälder oak. The figures such as mouse, fox, squirrels, owl, snake and of course the Gruffelo bring the story to life.

Along the path, families can not only admire the characters, but there are also explanatory boards and puzzles to discover. A QR code offers additional access to information about the path, the city and the famous Gruffelo books. The path is steep, but also for wheelchairs and strollers, so that it is accessible to every age group.

The Weinheim Museum has also dealt with the topic of Griffelo. From May 7th to September 11, 2022 there was a special Gruffelo room. As part of a handicraft and reading exhibition, families were able to become creative during the opening hours of the museum and experience the history of Gruffelo up close.
