Bicycle star ride for safe paths: Weinheim steps hard into the pedals!

Weinheim, Deutschland - On Sunday, July 6, 2025, around 100 cyclists gathered: Inside from Weinheim, Hirschberg and Ladenburg at the P&R parking lot at Weinheim train station to take part in the large bicycle star trip of the ADFC Rhein-Neckar. Under the motto "For more and safe bike paths", the participants were committed to improving the cycling infrastructure in the region. The first mayor of Weinheim, Andreas Buske, held a motivating speech in which he emphasized the importance of safe bike paths. Fadime Tuncer, member of the state parliament, was also part of the party, and Luzia Teinert from the climate protection management of the city of Weinheim, who acted as a co -organizer, emphasized the great wish of the population for safe bike paths.

The approximately 30 kilometer journey led to Schwetzingen, where the group joined a large bicycle demonstration that led to Mannheim. This campaign in the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region wanted to draw attention to the pressing necessity of a continuous and safe network of cycle paths. The rally in Schwetzingen, which started at 11:30 a.m., offered a central point for politicians: inside and citizens: inside to express their demands.

requirement for a better cycling infrastructure

The political dimension of the event became clear when the participants: on the inside loudly demanded a more consistent implementation of measures to improve the cycling infrastructure. The need for expansion was recognized by many political parties, but there was also violent criticism of the defective implementation of existing plans. In an increasingly networked traffic area, the bicycle traffic, the Federal Environment Agency stated, must make an important part in relieving the environment. Experts assume that up to 30 % of car journeys in urban metropolitan areas could be shifted to the bike, which would be beneficial not only to health but also to the environment.

The Radsternfahrt in Weinheim was not only part of the city cycling that runs until July 19 and already cycled over 57,000 kilometers, but also a call to overhaul the bicycle traffic in Germany. The participants: Inside, cycling speeds, which should now be implemented now and not in 10 years. Traffic was responsible for over 22 % of nationwide greenhouse gas emissions in 2023, with the promotion of cycling a essential measure to reduce these emissions.

health and environmental advantages of cycling

cycling not only brings with it environmentally friendly aspects, but also numerous health benefits. A daily moderate movement of around 30 minutes can reduce the risk of civilization diseases and increase life expectancy. Studies show that cyclists have fewer disease -related absences on average. In addition, the area consumption of bicycles is significantly below that of cars, which relieves the cities and creates more space for green areas.

In Weinheim it becomes clear that the passion for cycling is not just a trend, but a necessity. The bicycle traffic should be understood as part of a comprehensive mobility concept that also takes into account foot traffic and public transport. So it is obvious that more cities should follow the example in order to create a consistently better quality of life for the citizens:

The star trip will certainly set an example-not only for Weinheim, but for the entire Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region. The call for active participation is clear: Start with us for a future -proof cycling infrastructure!
