A6 near Hockenheim: Finally free travel from Tuesday!
After a multi -day block of the A6 A6 motorway southwest of Heidelberg, the route will be released on Tuesday morning, July 15th. Drivers can use the Schwetzingen/Hockenheim junction from around 6 a.m., as the RNZ reports. The block began on Thursday evening and was necessary to dismantle the scaffolding that was required for construction work on the bridge over the A6.
During the construction work that has been underway since the beginning of 2024, the bridge was extensively renewed. Working such as corrosion protection and the renovation of several lanes flowed in. However, by the end of the month, drivers can expect further restrictions, since smaller work - especially the attachment of protection planks - still stands. Even if the main barrier ends, there may always be disturbances, as the SWR adds.
detours for carefree driving
The road users had to accept extensive diversions during the blocking and better switch off their navigation systems. From the direction of Heilbronn or Karlsruhe, the path at the Walldorf motorway junction leads to the A5, while those that come from the direction of Saarbrücken are redirected to the A61 on the Frankenthal cross. There is also a special detour from the Mannheim motorway junction via the A656 to the Heidelberg motorway junction.
The severe impairment of traffic was also noticeable over the weekend, not only because of the blocking, but also due to the high travel volume, which was due to the start of the holiday in parts of northern Germany. The consequences were back on the B291 to the A6 and A61 at the Hockenheim triangle. The police have urged road users to use the signposted diversions.
an outlook on the coming weeks
Although the A6 can be used again from Tuesday, there will be further work for the coming weeks. The new bridge to the B39 at the Schwetzingen-Hockenheim junction is to be completed by September. Until then, it remains important to find out about current traffic information to avoid unnecessary traffic jams.
The coordination of the construction work requires patience from the drivers, which are often faced with unexpected delays and diversions. Even if the main work come to an end, all road users should always be on the hat and keep an eye on the new circumstances.
