Öhringen chooses: Who will be the new mayor in 2025?
Next Sunday Öhringen is all about the mayor election. Around 19,743 citizens entitled to vote are called to give up their vote. This event is a hot topic of conversation in the city. After all, not only the suitability of the current incumbent Thilo Michler, but also the future orientation of urban politics is decided.
Öhringen, which, with its 24,200 inhabitants, is also based on the UNESCO World Heritage Limes, offers a variety of leisure opportunities-from 60 playgrounds to numerous restaurants and shops. In addition, investments are made in the city: the Hohenlohe high school is modernized for 47 million euros and a new hospital is being created for a proud 100 million euros. The Michelbach outdoor pool is also being renovated for 3.3 million euros, while the Kultura event hall is getting a new roof and a ventilation system.
economic perspectives and planned investments
The household in 2025 from Öhringen has a volume of 125 million euros, with 36.5 million euros being planned for investments solely. One of the large ongoing projects is also the planned development of the Wammesfeld industrial area, which should further strengthen the business location. Despite these positive perspectives, however, a reduction in trade tax revenue is expected to 23 million euros, which could put municipal households under pressure.
Voters can look forward to several candidates in the election. In addition to the non-party incumbent Thilo Michler, who is already striving for his third term, the 30-year-old SPD city councilor Patrick Wegener and Peter Lohnert, a 58-year-old graduate from Pfedelbach, will compete. The candidates' election promises are primarily about the topics of strong economy, attractive city center, affordable living space and better educational institutions.
political background and turnout
The turnout is observed with interest. In the last mayor elections in 2017, this was only 19.7 %. In comparison, the local elections in June 2024 with a turnout of 54.81% were a clear ray of hope. For the Bundestag election in February, 28.6% of the voters chose the CDU and 27.7% of the AfD, while the SPD came to 13.3%, followed by the Greens with 10% and the FDP with 5.7%.
The polling stations will close on Sunday at 6 p.m., and the official election result will be announced by the first deputy mayor Ulrich Schimmel in front of the town hall. It is only to be hoped that the citizens of Öhringen will exercise their voting rights - after all, it is about the future of their city.
As the local elections in Baden-Württemberg show, citizens have an increasing interest in giving their vote. The demographic change, the increasing cost of living and new challenges in urban development ensure constant changes. The upcoming choice will show who can give the best answers to these questions, while Öhringen is preparing for strong economic wings and future investments. Stay informed - it will be exciting!
