Schools in BW awarded: Prices for smart consumer education!

Bad Rappenau, Deutschland - Have you ever wondered how important consumer education is in our schools? Especially in times when consumer behavior and advertising play an important role in everyday life, it is a valuable ability to deal with such topics critically. The consumer education award "made smart!", Which was awarded in Baden-Württemberg this year. It stands not only for individual skills, but also for a strong commitment to responsible consumption and education about advertising.

State Secretary Sabine Kurtz recently handed over the prizes to committed student groups who demonstrated their creativity and knowledge as part of this competition. For the 2025 consumer education award, outstanding work was awarded that dealt with the effect of advertising. "It is encouraging to see how young people get involved in consumer education," said Kurtz and emphasized the importance of the excellent contributions. Four school classes were honored in a colorful award ceremony:

  • First prize: class 9a, 9b and 9g of the Realschule Kollnau.
  • Second prize: class 6c of the Albert Schweitzer-Gymnasium Crailsheim.
  • hands-on price: class 9a and 9b of Friedrich Heuß School Haßmersheim and class 9b of the Bad Rappenau Verbund School.

The delicious projects included creative campaigns to clarify classmates about advertising and especially misleading advertising. Posters, videos, podcasts and even social media posts were created. The Realschule Kollnau caused a sensation with its own mascot that gave the project additional momentum.

The award ceremony was only the beginning - afterwards the students had the opportunity to take part in exciting workshops and city rally. These were organized in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Consumer Center, the State Center for Political Education and the development cooperation Baden-Württemberg. The workshops offered a platform to deepen knowledge about consumer education and exchange ideas with like -minded people.

Consumer formation reaches the younger generation in particular and comes to schools where it is most urgently needed. The offer is aimed at students of all types of school and classes in Baden-Württemberg. Consumer protection is more important today than ever, especially when it comes to high food prices and other everyday problems that affect many people. Jutta Gurkmann from the Federal Consumer Center emphasizes that information alone is not sufficient, especially if money worries determine everyday life. Therefore, it is essential to sensitize people to purchase decisions and to give them a good knack in dealing with advertising.

The consumer education award, which was previously known as a consumer protection award, was made in the school year 2024/25 under the new name "Smart!" advertised. This should now also integrate vocational schools and special educational educational and consulting centers (SBBZ) into the funding. An important step in the right direction, because consumer education already begins at school and supports students in making self -determined decisions!
