WhatsApp introduces advertising: empty promise or new era?
A new wind blows through the popular messaging app WhatsApp! From now on, the "News" area is filled with advertising, a step that comes across a wide variety of reactions in the community. According to Esslinger Zeitung reported.
The new advertising strategy
Now WhatsApp relies on advertising in the "News" area, where users can share images and videos for just 24 hours. In order to switch the advertising as targeted as possible, data such as the location and language settings are used. Users also have the option of linking their accounts on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp via the new "account overview". But the beginning of these advertisements comes gradually and initially with selected partners. An exact timeline for Germany is still pending.
Another feature that is introduced are the so -called channels. Here, users can subscribe to topics that range from sports to regional news, but cannot receive any direct answers. This new function is already becoming increasingly popular in Germany: around 14 percent of the population from the age of 14 are already using it. According to a report by Statista , WhatsApp counts in Germany about 44 million active users, and 76 percent of the respondents use the app regularly.
the competition and the critics
But not everyone is happy with this development. The U.S. competition keepers are concerned and criticize that a significant competitor was pushed out of the market by Facebook by Facebook. These concerns are reinforced by Brian Acton's support for the Signal competitor app, which relies on data protection and user-friendliness.
What will the future have for WhatsApp? The answers to this remain exciting. Users have to decide how they want to deal with the new advertisements and whether they continue to trust the platform that was once praised for their advertising use. The time will show whether this change of course really bears fruit or the trust of the users begins.
