Ludwigsburg Castle Festival: Monrepos Open Air without fireworks!

Ludwigsburg, Deutschland - The Ludwigsburg Castle Festival started with fresh wind and new ideas. At the end of May 2023, the new director Lucas Reuter opened the festival with a brilliant program. The increase in the public interest shows that the course is correct: the opening in the forum was sold out, and musical highlights such as Giorgi Gigashvili, the Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin and Joana Mallwitz ensured an impressive atmosphere. According to the Stuttgarter Zeitung came the new Prélude, which took place for the first time with the French chamber orchestra "Les Forces Majeures" and musical bike tours, well with visitors.

Reuter emphasizes the good cooperation in the team, even if two employees recently went. An important focus is on the historical venues in the castles, which is clearly reflected in the popularity of the events. The Monrepos Open Air Concerts on July 19, 2025, in the picturesque environment of the sea lock, for example.

fireworks ban and its consequences

But the mood could be clouded. The Stuttgart regional council banned the traditional fireworks at the Monrepos Open Air so as not to disturb the protected Nachtreher while breeding. "This is a dramatic turn," says Reuter. The ban that was pronounced for this year's festival did not come until 2023, but the birds have been sighted there since 2022. The decision is not based on documented disorders, but on the possibility that such could occur. This is a bitter setback for the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival.

The event on July 19, which at the same time represents the highlight of the castle festival, will certainly attract its viewers. The program includes waltzes and arias by Johann Strauss, who is known as the "Waltz King". As part of its 200th birthday, the Divertimento Viennese orchestra, led by Vinzenz Praxmarer, will perform the pieces in the sea lock.

cultural heritage and challenges

The Ludwigsburg Castle Festival itself can look back on a long history. They were founded in the 1930s and are now among the oldest festivals in German -speaking countries. Despite the challenges, the MONREPOS Open Air remains a significant image of image for the city and the country, even if it is often a loss of loss. Around 30 events are already sold out, including Mozart's opera Zaide in Favorite Castle.

With a combination discount for two events in June, the festival try to motivate future spectators. A certain feeling of farewell will be in the air, because the MONREPOS Open Air 2025 marks the last large orchestral concert in this form.

Until then, it remains exciting how things around the castle festival will develop. Whether with or without fireworks, one thing is certain: the music culture in Ludwigsburg has a lot to offer and is enriched by the participants with passion. For numerous visitors, the castle festival is a fixed appointment in the calendar that should not be missed.
