Bietigheim-Bissingen: New green building impresses with sustainability!

Yesterday, a groundbreaking project was presented in Bietigheim-Bissingen that will not only shape the city's landscape, but also set standards for ecological architecture. The managing director of Bietigheimer Wohnbau, Carsten Student, proudly presented the company's new headquarters, which is based on the motto “Green Building” of CO2 neutrality in construction and operation. This progress, according to pupils, should set an example for sustainable construction and pave the likely path for the future of the real estate industry.

“We have set ourselves high goals here,” emphasizes Student. The focus is not only on saving energy, but also on environmentally friendly material choices. The building will be equipped, among other things, with recycled mixtures in the concrete and an aluminum facade that consists of 95 percent recycled material. “We focus on sustainability – from the basic materials to the entire energy supply,” adds Student.

Innovative construction techniques for the future

Another highlight of the construction are the 34,000 hollow body elements, which help reduce concrete consumption by 35 percent. These elements are an essential part of the modern ceiling structure and show that a lot can be achieved with innovative technology. In addition, the building is supplied with electricity by numerous photovoltaic systems, which further underlines the desired CO2 neutrality.

As part of the project, emphasis was placed not only on the materials, but also on the quality of stay for the 140 employees. The area around the headquarters will be significantly enhanced by planting 40,000 perennials and bulbs and 400 shrubs. An intelligent plant irrigation system and an 80,000 liter cistern under the building ensure a needs-based water supply and also contribute to ecological sustainability.

Water as a vital factor

Another notable feature is the company's own reed sewage treatment plant, which treats gray water. This shows how important careful handling of water resources is today. It is often surprising to many that such innovative solutions are just as important in the construction of office buildings as in industry. Student explains: "Water plays a central role for the entire system. Our approaches are holistic."

In a side section of the presentation, the topic of the chemical processes that occur in a neutralizing reaction, in this case between caustic soda and carbon dioxide, was addressed. The process illustrates how essential the correct handling of chemical substances is in many construction projects. “It’s exciting to see how chemical reactions, such as the transition from CO2 to bicarbonate, can be incorporated into the design of environmentally friendly solutions,” said Student. Chemistry Stack Exchange explains the different steps of this reaction and the associated chemical interactions.

The desire to create one of the most sustainable buildings in the country is more than just an ambitious project. It shows that with a good hand and creative ideas, a lot can be done for the environment. The headquarters of Bietigheimer Wohnbau could therefore combine proximity to nature and efficiency in one and serve as a role model for future generations.

When asked why sustainability is important now more than ever, the student simply answers: "There's something to be said! If not now, then when?"

With this step, Bietigheimer Wohnbau is once again underlining its responsibility towards the environment and ensuring that the region becomes a bit more livable. It will be exciting to see how the new building plays its role in the city and for the employees in the next few years. Bietigheim newspaper reports that this could be just the beginning of an ecological wave that may spread even more widely in the future.
