Great love is celebrated in Bietigheim-Bissingen! Helmut and Wera Mayer can look back on a proud 75 years of marriage. An anniversary that is a reason to celebrate not only for the two of them, but also for their family.
Helmut Mayer, who describes his wife as a “wonder of the world,” especially appreciates her patience with him. Wera, at 95 years old, describes her husband as the humorous companion at her side. The two have overcome the ups and downs of life together and fondly remember the good times: traveling together and family celebrations at Christmas and birthdays are among their best memories.
A colorful family life
A factor in her life that should not be underestimated are her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple has six children and can look forward to ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Helmut likes to joke that they already have their “own football team” in the family circle. For the couple, the close ties to their family and the divine support through their faith are indispensable components of their harmonious marriage.
The solidarity became particularly clear during the golden wedding anniversary celebration, which took place in the parish hall of the Paulus parish. Despite a small challenge - Wera had both arms in plaster - the 52 friends and family didn't let it spoil their good mood. There was a lot to laugh and celebrate.
Humor and helpfulness
Humor plays a central role in the Mayers' lives. Helmut, who is not a natural househusband, made extraordinary efforts to support Wera during their time together. He even took part in a cooking class, even though it didn't quite have the desired effect. Nevertheless, it shows how important his family is to him. “I was the only man in the cooking class who scraped spaetzle myself,” he laughs.
This long story by Helmut and Wera Mayer also shows that the combination of humor and faith is actually a supporting foundation for a long-lasting marriage. “We always tackled it together and are grateful for what life has given us,” summarizes Helmut.
