Train failures in Stuttgart: Massive track work affected by July 7th!

Esslingen am Neckar, Deutschland - In Stuttgart's local transport it says again: patience is required! Due to extensive track work in Feuerbach, passengers have to prepare for changes until Tuesday, July 7th. The S-Bahn lines S4, S5 and S62 are particularly affected. While the S-Bahn changes to a 30-minute cycle, the long-distance trains between Zuffenhausen and the Nordbahnhof are completely eliminated. If you want to go to Karlsruhe by train, you should prepare for longer travel times, because many connections are omitted and the long -distance trains now keep in Esslingen, instead of in Stuttgart's main train station, like Kreiszeitung reported.

The diversions also affect regional traffic: the RB11 (Schusterbahn) line and the RE1 between the main train station and Vaihingen/Enz are diverted. Passengers have to prepare for the fact that there is no stop in Bad Cannstatt and at the main train station for the trains of the Mex 18 line, instead an additional stop is set up in Kornwestheim.

additional construction work in the Stuttgart area

But the challenges in the Stuttgart rail network are far from over. Another important construction project is just around the corner: the digital knot Stuttgart, which is considered one of the most complex rail infrastructure projects in Europe. The [Deutsche Bahn] (https://www.deutschebahn.com/de/presse/Presse-regional/Pre-stuttgart-de/aktuell/Presseinformations/22-pi-Bahnbahn-bahn-stuttgart- 13321222) is planning the commissioning of the new node, whereby all connections to the existing infrastructure must be reorganized. The construction work for this project is scheduled for 2025 and bring numerous traffic restrictions.

A first phase of this work has been running since May 12th when Deutsche Bahn started with an extensive range of buses between Waiblingen and Bad Cannstatt. Over 80 buses with around 240 drivers are used to compensate for the bottlenecks in train traffic. These buses run every five minutes, also during the closures, which are scheduled until the end of July 2023, as well as on S-Bahn Stuttgart can be read.

plans for the coming months

In the further course of 2025, several closures and construction work for the rail network area in the Greater Stuttgart area are planned. Starting with the blocking of the S-Bahn line from July 26 to September 6, 2025, followed by further measures in Bad Cannstatt and Obertürkheim. Deutsche Bahn will not only publish the traffic restrictions on your website, but will also prepare replacement traffic concepts so that travelers come from A to B despite the restrictions.

In times like this, it shows how important flexibility and good planning are, because the rail travelers unfortunately have to prepare for some changes. At the end of the construction work, however, an improved rail network will be available for everyone that is also prepared for future challenges in the long term.
