Lighting for crosswalks: Kelterstraße will be safer from June 16!

In the city of Esslingen something is happening! From June 16, the lighting will be installed on the zebra crossing in Kelterstrasse. This measure brings light into the dark and ensures more security when crossing the street. The construction period is expected to take two to three days. During the work, the Kelterstrasse will be closed on one side, and access will only be possible from the direction of Sulzgrieser Straße. There is also good news for commuters: after completion, the zebra crossing will be used again immediately.

As in the past few months, when the access to the Sulzgries primary school and the confluence with Sulzgrieser Straße, the city shows that the safety of pedestrians is very important to it. If you calculate the total duration and the delays that have led to a late installation of the lighting, the upcoming step is continuously important for traffic safety. It is particularly important to emphasize that the “Bergstrasse” stop of the SVE lines 109 and 132 cannot be operated during the construction work. Replacement traffic with minibuses is offered between "Bergstrasse" and "Maienwalterstraße", where the passengers can switch to the regular lines.

pedestrian protection in focus

How important the protection of pedestrians is not only becomes clear in Esslingen. Mobile zebra strips also require additional lighting to ensure safe crossing for pedestrians. The road traffic regulations demand that pedestrians have priority to this. The good recognizability is particularly crucial in the dark. According to the report by AVS-Verkehrsurance.de, existing street lighting is often not sufficient, which is why additional lights are necessary.

According to the structures that are legally recorded, at least two additional lights per pedestrian crossing must be attached. They ensure that pedestrians are clearly visible not only when crossing, but also in difficult weather conditions. The mobile pedestrian cross-way lighting, as offered by Berghaus, contains two powerful LED road lights that immediately reach full luminosity and offer excellent visibility at dusk and fog.

modern technologies for more security

The requirements for pedestrian crossing are clear: they not only have to be well marked, but also be secured by strict standards regarding lighting. Efficient additional lighting is therefore absolutely necessary, not only on conventional ones, but also for road narrowing or middle islands. The DIN standards stipulate that security must be guaranteed during the day and at night.

The use of modern technologies such as mobile lighting solutions shows that Esslingen has a good knack for innovative security measures. This not only improves the view for pedestrians, but also the awareness of road users for the safety of the weakest in road traffic. The upcoming renovation work on the zebra crossing in Kelterstrasse are another step in the right direction to increase security in the city.
