Strawberry moon on Stuttgart: A rare sight that enchants!

A rare sight illuminated the Stuttgart night sky on June 12, 2025: the strawberry moon presented itself in full splendor. It was the first time in 18 years that this impressive natural spectacle was celebrated among the inhabitants of the state capital. The moon shone reddish-brown and stood deeper on the horizon as usual, which made the experience particularly impressive. A dreamy summer night announced itself, and many enthusiastic hobby photographers were ready to capture memories as soon as the heavenly light broke through the dark. [Krzbb] reports that despite some cloudy areas the moon was clearly visible and numerous astronomers and photographers watch the phenomenon with great eyes.

The origins of the name "Strawberry Moon" are as exciting as the event itself. The last strawberry moon, which was so close to the horizon, was observed in 2007. Until the next similar constellation, interested parties must wait until 2043 if the moon appears again in this form.

astronomical peculiarities

The strawberry moon is not only an emotional highlight, but also an astronomical spectacle. According to the [Factast table], it represents the deepest full moon by 2043, which reinforces its visibility and the experience. Dr. Björn Voss, director of the planetarium in Hamburg, explains that the moon played a role in the structuring of everyday life for people. The slow movement of the moon on the horizon during this special full moon night is a unique phenomenon that occurs in an interval of 18.6 years and was therefore a reason for everyone to gather under the stars.

When summer is heralded in the northern hemisphere, it is worth looking at the sky. Anyone who had the opportunity to watch the strawberry moon will probably report this magical spectacle for a long time. And even if the next opportunity is in such a distant future, the strawberry moon ensures that the anticipation for the next astronomical event is already increasing.
