Care alarm: More and more younger people need help in everyday life!
In Germany, the topic of care is becoming increasingly urgent, because the latest figures show an alarming increase of those in need of care. According to KA-News , the number of people with a level of care rose to almost 5.7 million-that is almost 700,000 more than in 2021. A considerable part of it, about 34 percent, is 85 years old or older. However, the statistics also show that the increase in those in need of care not only affects older generations; In particular, the age groups between the ages of 18 and 59 have been affected by an increase in new people in need of over 150 percent.
The change in the concept of care in 2017 made a significant contribution to this increase. At that time, cognitive, psychological and psychiatric diseases were also included in the consideration and the system of three care levels were converted to five care levels. This has improved the perception and recognition of various clinical pictures in society, and, as the numbers show, also the number of officially recognized people in need of care.
The distribution of those in need of care
A detailed view of the current care statistics shows the distribution of those in need of care to different age groups:
Alter
| ||
---|---|---|
up to 15 years | 268.623 | 4.72% |
15 to 30 years | 170.813 | 3.01% |
30 to 45 years | 149.611 | 2.63% |
45 to 60 years | 375.688 | 6.60% |
60 to 75 years | 1.089.752 | 19.16% |
75 to 90 years | 2.915.931 | 51.26% |
90 years and more | 718.055 | 12.62% |
In total, almost 17 percent of those in need of care show an age under the age of 60. In 2021 it was still 16.52 percent, i.e. around 819,700 people. These numbers underline how important it is to deal with the reality of care and to take the appropriate measures to improve care.
home care in focus
Another urgent point is the type of care: according to Destatis , the majority-namely 85.9 percent-is looked after at home, be it by relatives or outpatient care services. This form of care is widespread, but often presents the families with enormous challenges. While the survey offers extensive data on inpatient and outpatient care facilities at the end of 2023, it also shows the increasingly important role of domestic care for society.
The statistics provide a valuable basis for planning and further development of the nursing infrastructure in Germany. Because it is clear: the demographic changes, coupled with the growing number of people in need of care and the thematic shifts in nursing, require new approaches and strategies to meet demand.
In this sense,is a good overview of the developments and numbers of essential importance for anyone who deals with the topic of care. It remains to be seen which measures will take politics in order to counteract the impending care of the care. Social responsibility is increasingly being distributed over all shoulders, and it is up to us to work together on solutions.
