Karlsruhe Airport: Passengers miss flights for security chaos!
At Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport, the popular turnstile in the region, the problems do not tear off. Passengers report long waiting times for security control, which means that they often miss their flights. According to a report by SWR this has attracted the attention of politics. The CDU and the FDP are calling for a comprehensive information about the causes of the bottlenecks.
Especially the short -term personnel bottlenecks of the external service provider, who is responsible for security controls, mess up the system. The Stuttgart regional council confirmed the challenges. So far, 346 claims of passengers have already been asserted due to missed flights in the first half of 2023, while there were a total of around 450 in 2022. Managing Director Uwe Kotzan expresses concerns about the struck image of the airport and calls for improved planning and control.
bottlenecks and solutions
The airport, which had a proud 1.8 million passengers last year, can attract up to 8,000 travelers a day at peak times. The regional council recommends that the flight schedule to reduce the pressure on security controls. In the past there were also technical problems. An IT failure at the federal police led to massive difficulties in the handling of machines that were to fly to Morocco and Albania. Reports from PZ-News 450 passengers were affected and had to wait for a manual processing.
To improve the situation, the regional council has already hired seven additional control forces and is working to enlarge the personnel base of the service provider. The airport itself has five signs of control that could be sufficient if they are occupied in time. There are also plans for creating further control points to react to the growing passenger volume.
consequences for travelers
For travelers, this means that they should better prepare for their flights. The airport operator recommends being on the security check at least 90 to 120 minutes before boarding. However, it is a reality that many passengers should even arrive 2.5 to 3 hours in advance to avoid unnecessary stress.
The current information on flights and security controls are available on the airport website. In view of the situation, it is difficult to preserve the hope of a smooth process, but it remains to be hoped that those responsible will take the necessary measures to improve the processes sustainably.
