Lörrach celebrates global diversity at the 33rd International Summer Festival!
Last Saturday, July 12, 2025, the 33rd International Summer Festival took place on the Lörracher Marktplatz, a colorful festival of cultures with participants: inside from 133 countries. Almost every fourth inhabitant of Lörrach has a foreign passport, which impressively illustrates the diversity in the city. In his opening speech, Mayor Jörg Lutz emphasized the great importance of integration and cultural exchange in the region. The festival was organized by the participation and integration advisory board in cooperation with the city administration, which had their hands full to offer the numerous visitors: an unforgettable experience inside.
The demonstrations were a highlight of the day. Young dancers from "Art & Dance" attracted their eyes with their ballet and jazz performances. But the Ukrainian children's choir, led by Olin Vyshnevska, also made the hearts of the spectators melt with his home songs and an impressive dance performance. The traditional drum rhythms of the Afghan group "Tula and Tabla" and the variety from the gambier with a advance notice of a football tournament ensured a lively atmosphere that invited to celebrate.
Experience culinary diversity
At the festival, the culinary delights of the world were also presented. From Wolof-Reis with chicken and peanut tomato sauce, which was offered at the gambier stand, to traditional sweets and handmade jewelry from Ukraine-visitors: Inside, various international specialties were able to feast. Among other things, the stands represented the kitchen of Türkiye, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Syria and invited to discover new taste experiences.
commitment to the community
The International Summer Festival also offered a platform for social organizations. “Pharmacists without borders” were represented for the first time and informed about their humanitarian projects, while other organizations such as Unicef, Caritas and the Schubert Durand Foundation also reported their valuable work. In the museum, the impressive film "I am a woman" was shown who portrayed 20 women from the border triangle.
The festival was enriched by the Afghan painter Hisam Rustaqi, who exhibited his works, including fascinating animal portraits and pieces of his parents. So something was offered for every visitor - whether through music, dance or the impressive art.
Overall, the summer festival was a great success and a nice example of how the coexistence of different cultures in Lörrach is lived. More information about the festival and for other events are on the pages of Black Forest Bote Lörrach.de.
