Future of the Radolfzeller clinic building: historical parts are preserved!

Radolfzell am Bodensee, Deutschland - The hospital in Radolfzell, Konstanz district, has experienced a lot of movement since his closure two years ago. On June 27, 2025, the next steps for the use of the former clinic building were announced. Accompanied by District Administrator Zeno Danner, Radolfzell's Mayor Simon Gröger and Singing Mayor Bernd Häusler, talks took place on how to proceed, such as lrakn.de reported.

The agreement stipulates that two parts of the building are preserved: the historical part from 1906 and the southern bed wing. A comprehensive examination has shown that a total termination is not necessary, but the two preserved parts must be gutted. The rest of the building fabric is to be demolished because this is more economical. The estimated budget for gutting and partial demolition is around 3.1 million euros, with the district of Constance and the city of Radolfzell bear the costs in equal parts. The district plans to take over up to 2 million euros as financial participation in order to consider this as a compensation for unavailed investments in the past, such as SWR.de reported.

the look into the future

The future use of the clinic building has not yet been finally clarified. Possible options are medical practices, educational institutions, offices or living space. A strategy process for integrating the citizens for the implementation of these usage ideas is imminent. Experts also assume that the total costs may increase, for example by unforeseen pollutants that are discovered during the demolition work. The urban participation in the Health Association of Konstanz (GLKN) is 24 percent, while Radolfzell will also emerge from the Hegau-Bodensee-Klinikum funding company in order to be able to make independent decisions.

Another point that is important for the health sector are the ongoing reforms that have been initiated by the Hospital Structure Act. The aim is to improve the quality of care in the hospital, which means: Leading medical care and increases in efficiency are in the foreground. The reform is intended to support structurally weaker regions in particular to ensure better health care, as bundes-sgk.de

Overall, those responsible in Radolfzell are in a process that not only affects the structural future of the former hospital, but also the entire health care in the region. The next few months should be decisive for how the plans can be concretized and implemented.
