Crocodile alarm in Konstanz: Fire brigade captures a deceptively real dummy!

In Konstanz, the fire brigade and police were alerted this morning when walkers discovered what appeared to be a crocodile in a pond. At around 8:00 a.m., those alert reported a reptilian creature with its head sticking suspiciously out of the water. The Südwestdeutsche Rundfunk reports that the fire brigade was called immediately and arrived at the scene a few minutes later.

The emergency services secured the area with a large contingent and began to inspect the animal. A prepared long pole was used to draw a noose around the crocodile's head. Net and large mesh box were also provided. But the surprise quickly followed: the reptilian creature was a deceptively real dummy that was attached to a stone to prevent it from aborting. Fortunately, the danger of a wild animal was ruled out. The origin of the dummy remains unclear, the Konstanz police have started an investigation and handed over the dummy for further clarification.

Further operations by the Konstanz fire department

While some were worried about a crocodile, another incident on Lake Constance caused a stir. A burning motorboat kept the emergency services on tenterhooks. According to the Konstanz fire brigade, in addition to the full-time fire department, the oil fire brigade also deployed to Überlingersee. Together with the fire departments from Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, Meersburg and Überlingen, a quick and professional approach was ensured. They received support from the DLRG bases on Lake Überlingersee.

Shortly after the alarm was raised, heavy smoke development was confirmed in the affected area. Fortunately, everyone had already been rescued from the burning boat and out of the water by other boats. After the fire was extinguished, the burned-out boat was towed to the Unteruhldingen sports boat harbor. After the operation, the fire brigade carried out safety measures and were able to return after around five hours without there being any environmental risk due to possible leakage of operating materials. Questions about the cause of the fire should be directed to the water police.

Disaster protection and rescue services in the Konstanz district

These operations impressively demonstrate the important work of the fire and rescue services in the region. The Department of Fire and Disaster Protection in the Konstanz district has legal supervision over the rescue service and monitors compliance with legal requirements. The district is divided into 35 emergency services areas, each of which forms an area committee for the emergency services.

These committees are made up of representatives of the service providers and payers and are significantly involved in the planning and implementation of the rescue service. This guarantees adequate emergency medical care and a quick response to emergencies. Regular review of the operational plans ensures that the rescue services can continue to react efficiently and quickly in the future.
