Christmas with heart: parcel campaign for poor seniors starting soon!

In the contemplative time of the year, when the days get shorter and the nights colder, the popular Christmas package campaign “Christmas with a heart – A Christmas package and much more” starts in Freiburg. The campaign, which has been running since 2010, aims to bring some joy to older people with low pensions and single seniors in the region. This laudable initiative is organized by the AWO Freiburg, supported by Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau and other partners such as AWO-Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald/Emmendingen, AWO-Waldkirch and AWO-Denzlingen.

This year the campaign runs from November 24th to December 11th, 2025. The idea is simple: citizens are invited to fill a shoebox with gifts. The selection should fall on things that make every heart beat faster - be it tea, coffee, Christmas cookies or long-life foods, but personal care products and personal messages are also very welcome. These gifts will be accepted until December 12th at the Sparkasse offices and the AWO office in Freiburg-Weingarten. Surplus packages go to the Freiburger Tafel to make even more people in the region happy.

Support for those in need

The need of many older people is becoming increasingly urgent due to rising food prices, which is why the initiative is particularly important in these times. “The packages should bring joy and contain things for the head, stomach, skin and heart,” says the AWO. The gifts are a welcome change in the often difficult everyday lives of those affected. Anyone who would like to support can also make monetary donations. The packages are ultimately distributed to the residents of the AWO senior citizens' residences and nursing homes in Freiburg, Emmendingen, Herbolzheim, Teningen, Riegel, Denzlingen, Kenzingen and Freiburg-Weingarten. A voluntary packaging campaign in which volunteers can help will take place on December 12th and 13th in the Rieselfeld glasshouse.
