Ulm departure: Large construction program for better infrastructure started!

In Ulm a lot is happening - and not without reason! Mayor Martin Ansbacher (SPD) has now proclaimed the largest investment program in city history. Wow, the Ulmers can make themselves prepared for something. Average of around 1,100 euros per capita is to be invested over the next few years, which is about twice as much as in Stuttgart, where the expenses are around 630 euros per person. The city is faced with huge challenges, because the infrastructure is very old. Bridges are dilapidated and several million euros must be planned for traffic, energy and heat transition. The city is changing into a large construction site, which also has its price!

But the city administration promises that all projects are on schedule. A particularly large project is the renewal of the Wallstrasse bridge. From November 29, 2023, the B10 to the south will be blocked at this point - a detour via Blaubeurer Straße is necessary. This first measure is to be understood as a "milestone of urban development", because by this date, the extensive work in the city center should be largely completed. The site manager Gerhard Fraidel optimistically reports on progress, even if it inevitably brings traffic loads.

traffic projects for the future

With the replacement of the Wallstrasse bridge, everything should be done by the end of 2024. But that's not all: the bridge on the crooked house is also being rebuilt, with the start of construction after the Schwörmontag and a planned conclusion until the end of November. Furthermore, from September 8, 2025 to the end of October, the bridge on the Berlin Ring between the University and Böfingen will be temporarily completely closed. It says: change to get a good distance!

Another important construction project affects the Gänstorbrücke, which will lead traffic via a new sub -structure from mid -2026, while the old building remains passable during the conversion phase. The focus is also on the Adenauerbrücke - it remains accessible with at least four traces, but cyclists and pedestrians have to expect restrictions. A new provisional foot and bike bridge will be available from July 25th to create relief at least in this area.

For the Schwörwochende, an exemption is being planned so that the provisional bridge is opened downstream and boats can pass under the Adenauerbrücke. So here is finely sanded to meet the needs of the population!

Mobility transition in focus

In order to implement all of these changes sensibly and sustainably, mobility in Ulm is rethought. A strategy that is in accordance with the current trend of mobility transition in accordance with other cities. According to the Federal Ministry of Digital and Traffic, it is not necessary to do without, but is based on new concepts and alternative means of transport. In Ulm, this could also mean that projects are better organized by projects within the framework of the Innovation Initiative Mfund, which promote sustainable city and traffic planning. The goals include the reduction in motorized private transport and the promotion of pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The need for an infrastructure "of the short distances" and the connection through electrically operated minibuses for persons restricted mobility are also desired in the Ulm concept. Innovative ideas that meet the pulse of the time and make Ulm fit for the future!

summarized - the coming years will be exciting for the Ulmer. Construction sites, traffic projects and a bold mobility turn are pending. And even if it is often a challenge, these changes also bring many opportunities with them. Let us be surprised how Ulm will develop!
