An artist in the forest: vernissage by Helmut and Edgar Braig in Althütte!

Giengen an der Brenz, Deutschland - The creative worlds of Helmut and Edgar Braig will be in the focus of the art scene in Althütte from June 22nd. On this day, the double exhibition "In the undergrowth of the beautiful arts" is opened in the Anna Haag birthplace. Here, visitors can expect an exciting examination of the work of the legendary artist Helmut Braig, whose influence and estate is illuminated by his nephew Edgar Braig.

Helmut Braig, born March 16, 1923 in Allmendingen and died on December 11, 2013 in Giengen an der Brenz, was a versatile artist. A unique style is revealed in its musical and visual forms of expression, which were characterized by surrealistic approaches. He became known in particular through the film "The Ants War", the first doll's film in the real gang, which celebrated its premiere in 1963 and even found entry in the Guinness Book of Records. His compositional skill and the ability to transport emotions through art made him an important figure in the German art scene.

a cross -generational dialogue

The exhibition not only shows various art objects by Helmut Braig, but also combines the work of Edgar Braig, who also sees himself as a narrator and uses numerous forms of expression. A special thing in common between the two artists is the recurring representation of the ant - a motif that serves as a thread in the exhibition and combines the two artists for generations.

Edgar Braig has devoted intensive research to the roots and art of his uncle. When viewing the estate, he discovered the Waldhaus near Althütte, which Helmut Braig served as a retreat. These discoveries flowed into the developed documentary "Waldleben", which captures the attitude to life and the idyll of the secluded place.

insights into the exhibition

The vernissage of the double exhibition will open on June 22 with a reading by Edgar Braig from Helmut Braig's book "Fractional", in which he processes his war experiences. In addition, visitors can also marvel at cartoons such as "The ants War" and "Romance in the garbage" as part of the exhibition.

The finissage on July 13, from 2 p.m., is rounded off with film screenings by and about Helmut Braig. It is a unique opportunity to experience the works of an artist whose art has been strongly shaped by his personal experiences.

The influence of surrealism

Helmut Braig's work is to be seen as part of the surrealistic movement, which developed in Paris in the 1920s. This movement, influenced by experiences of the First World War and psychoanalytic theories of Sigmund Freud, questioned conventional social norms and created spaces for the expression of the unconscious. Today's artists are also inspired by the surrealistic concepts and bring them into new contexts.

The double exhibition "In the undergrowth of the beautiful arts" not only gives insights into the work of one of the most remarkable artists after the war, but also invites you to think about the influence of the art of the past. A visit to the Althütte Heimatmuseum should not miss a art lover.
