Tauschtreff in Biberach: A creative concept for sustainability!

The current issue of the local news magazine is about a fascinating project that ensures a fresh air in the Biberach district. Last year, the committed members of the Reute Music Association hired their waste paper collections because the amounts collected declined. But instead of putting the head in the sand, Stefan Schreiber, who is responsible for the circular economy at the waste management company, took the initiative and brought a brilliant idea to the table: the exchange meeting.

What exactly is a exchange meeting? These events not only promote creativity, but also contribute to sustainability. The first exchange meeting took place in October last year and the demand was overwhelming - an average of 200 visitors per opening day flocked to the premises of the music association. Popular exchange goods are mainly tricycles and toys, while dishes and pots are not quite as popular.

volunteering and community

Volunteering plays a very special role at the exchange meeting. The waste management company supports the initiative financially by paying the Musikverein a monthly bonus per opening hour and helper. This can relieve the 35 members of the association, which have around 20,000 euros annual costs.

The success of the exchange meeting has already led to the project to be extended to three locations: In addition to Reute, the sports club in Schönebürg and the volunteer fire brigade in Zwiefaltendorf are now also part of the party. This is not just a local initiative - other counties have already shown interest in imitation.

sustainability in focus

The project is in line with current developments in German waste management. In 2020, around 39.6 million tons of waste were collected in private households in Germany, and when it comes to the new federal government, the "national circulatory business strategy" will ensure that more durable, reusable and recyclable products are developed. Also innovative ideas for shared use, such as the exchange meeting, are also to be promoted to reduce primary raw material consumption and increase the recycled quotas, as the GDV informs.

In order to further strengthen the commitment around the exchange meeting, there were numerous events last year. From an employee status at the Advent market in the Abbey to the Holy Spirit to creative offers at the summer festival - the exchange club proves how much community and joie de vivre is in the idea of swapping. There is also very currently information about the next opening times in the Biberach waste app, which invites everyone interested to become part of this sustainable movement.

With every joint organized campaign, the community grows and awareness of a sustainable lifestyle. Finally, the success shows that there is great potential for the future in cooperation, sharing and swapping - both for the people in the Biberach district and the environment.
