Tatjana Pflug-Stepko: From film to painting-art for peace!
Biberach, Deutschland - A touch of summer-this is what the first painting exhibition by Tatjana Pflug-Stepko promises, which takes place in the youth art school (JUKS) Biberach. The former film and television director from Ukraine chose a new creative path after 20 years in the film business and will present her works on June 25, 2025 at 7 p.m.
plow-stepko, which only began painting after their arrival in Germany, gives the horrors of war in their homeland with their art. With a spontaneous desire to buy a canvas and colors, she started her painting trip. In the exhibition "The Hinter of Summer" she shows ten colorful works that are primarily about floral motifs.
creativity as a consolation
"Painting helps me distract me from the thoughts of the war and promote positive thoughts," explains Pflug-Stepko. Her painting technology, which fluctuates between interior art and realistic painting, learned her through the online painting school "Modern Artist" under the direction of Adelina Akbirova. She is currently studying realism at the "Arona Anore" painting academy.
The support of her husband Markus Pflug and Juks director Susanne Maier, who made the exhibition possible, gives her additional strength. With her art, she not only wants to give joy, but also to transport a piece of home to German reality.
The art of hope in times of crisis
In view of the overall situation, it is important to mention that the war in Ukraine brings with it a significant impairment of cultural activities. For many people, cultural forms of expression are an essential connection to their identity and a form to escape the exhaustion of the war. Despite the circumstances, the crisis initiated increased attention to Ukrainian culture in Europe. Not only Pflug-Stepko’s works come into the spotlight, but also many other Ukrainian artists who take up exile and topics in their work. As in the context of a current Berlin show, in which saved works from the Odessa Museum for Western and Eastern Art are presented, the culture opens up new dialogues despite all adversities. The exhibition "From Odesa to Berlin" shows how European painting is connected and reflects a common cultural heritage. This exhibition begins on January 24, 2026 and is also supposed to travel to Heidelberg, whereby the return of the works to Odessa depends on the war situation (https://www.tagesspiegel.de/berlin/gemaldegalerie-beriner exhibition-.-gemalde-aus-der-ukraine-12971494.hml).
A law in Ukraine states that culture has to take place in Ukrainian, which has increased the aversion to the Russian language. In view of these challenges, the exchange with the cultural community in Germany remains of great importance. [Deutschlandfunk Kultur
This means that Pflug-Stepko’s exhibition is not only another chapter in her personal history, but also an encouragement for other artists to find and raise their voice despite adverse circumstances.
All those interested in art are welcome to experience the young artist and her works in the Juks Biberach and to discover a piece of the Ukrainian summer in the art world.
