Weinheimer Stadium becomes a modern sports park for all citizens!

In the Sepp-Herberger Stadium in Weinheim, a lot is happening: FV 09 Weinheim not only celebrated impressive sporting success, including victories against Bavaria, but also strong performance in athletics. But in addition to the success on the pitch, there are now also big changes in the room that are intended to convert the stadium into a modern citizens' park with a variety of sports facilities. The municipal council of Weinheim has dealt intensively with the various aspects, such as technical, structural and financial circumstances, and accompanies the project very precisely. A spokeswoman for the Sports Committee explained that you had a good hand in development and that the committee's recommendations have already been accepted. Idea conferences with sports clubs have already taken place to find the best solutions together and to integrate the citizens into the process.

A central point of the plan is to renew the athletics systems and jumping systems to enable larger events in the future. A visit to the municipal council members in Darmstadt, where a similar project was successfully implemented, should serve as a model. The aim is to keep the system accessible to the general public and to create a sports area with a parking character. The location of the main turf and grandstand should also remain unchanged, while receiving the existing trees is another goal of redesigning.

financing and implementation of the measures

Overall, the entire concept amounts to a renovation -related investment of around 16 million euros over a period of ten years, which is gradually divided into different modules:

  • module 1: renewal of athletics systems, cost around 2.9 million euros.
  • module 2: renovation or new construction of the old buildings (changing rooms, showers), cost approx. 5.6 million euros.
  • Module 3: artificial turf field, lawn kite field and mini playing field, cost around 2.26 million euros.
  • module 4: other sports and leisure areas such as a multifunctional hall and outdoor fitness, cost approx. 2.1 million euros.
In addition, measures are provided that also affect the paths, places, parking spaces, lighting and tree plantings, for which a further 2.5 million euros are planned. The management of Weinheim is currently in the process of checking various funding opportunities at the political level to ensure the financing of the project.

The redesign of the Sepp-Herberger Stadium could not only sustainably improve the sporting infrastructure, but also create a place of encounter and integration that goes far beyond pure sport. Such future-oriented concepts for sports development are important in order to meet the increasing demand for sports and leisure activities. Information on municipal sports development projects, such as those processed by institutions such as the German Sport University Cologne, show that the trend towards more exercise and sporting activity is very important. The efforts in Weinheim are a step in the right direction to implement this trend at the local level and to integrate sensibly into urban development.

The coming years promise to be exciting! For everyone who is on site or are interested in developments in Weinheim, it now remains to be seen how the plans will be implemented in concrete terms. For example, a lively and multifunctional sports landscape will be created, which serves both sporty and community purposes.
