Full closure of the A6: Bridge construction near Schwetzingen ensures traffic jams!

Hockenheim, Deutschland - The A6 motorway will soon become a construction site. From 10 July, around 10:00 p.m. to July 15, approx. 6:00 a.m., the route between Schwetzingen and Hockenheim will be closed full of the partial replacement construction of the bridge structure due to important theses. This measure affects both directions of the A6 and is intended to promote the construction work there effectively, such as the Speyer Kurier reported.

Already from 8:00 p.m. on July 10th, the internal ramps of the Schwetzingen/Hockenheim junction will also be closed. The closure affects several descents, including the A6 from Heilbronn on the B39 towards Hockenheim and the A6 from Mannheim on the B39 towards Schwetzingen. Road users should be careful, since the B39 from Hockenheim on the A6 and the B39 from Schwetzingen are also affected on the A6 towards Heilbronn.

planned measures during the closure

Numerous work is carried out during the full closure. This includes the disassembly of scaffolding for the bridge caps, the production of corrosion protection and the renovation of the lanes and the dismantling of temporaries. The work takes place around the clock to get ahead as quickly as possible.

Interestingly, the traffic release of the new bridge structure is sought for the end of the summer of 2025, which means relief for all road users. After that, only smaller work on the A6 is necessary. For the B39, the final asphalt work is to be carried out in parallel to the A6 before the complete relief of road users can occur.

diversions and traffic management

The Autobahn GmbH calls on all road users to use far -spacious diversions. These diversions lead, for example, for vehicles on the A6 from Heilbronn via the A5 to the Heidelberg motorway junction and then further via the A656 to Mannheim. An alternative route leads via the A6 to the Hockenheim triangle and then to the A61 towards Koblenz.

For the Darmstadt and Frankfurt travel goals, the A5 from Walldorf motorway junction is recommended. Road users from Saarbrücken should also be redirected via the A61 from the Frankenthal motorway junction. Local diversions are also planned from the Schwetzingen/Hockenheim junction, including via the U74 on the B291 and then on the L599 to Schwetzingen.

In addition, a further full closure of the A6 between Sinsheim and Wiesloch/Rauenberg has recently been announced. This measure takes place from January 26th to 28th and serves to create a supporting structure for a new bridge that is built on a provisional steel structure. This work also requires careful traffic management and temporary diversions, which significantly affects the traffic, such as Heidelberg24 reported.

innovations in bridge construction

In the meantime, developments in bridge construction show that the industry is in motion. Innovative approaches such as the express construction proposed by Theo Reddemann could significantly shorten the construction times and enable weather-independent work, as the ZDF . Such measures are required, because according to estimates, around 8,000 motorway and 3,000 federal road bridges must be renewed in the next 20 years. Overall, major challenges are imminent, which should be mastered with a clever traffic management and a future -oriented construction.
