Röchling: Sales decline in plastic giants-hope for stability 2025

The Röchling Group, an important player in the plastic industry, has had a mixed year. CEO Raphael Wolfram recently commented only in part with the business development in 2024. The total turnover of the group of companies is approximately 2.6 billion euros, which corresponds to a decrease of almost 5 percent compared to the previous year, such as Plastic Web reported.

The decline in revenues in almost all world regions that were between 6 and 8 percent is particularly noticeable: the American continents recorded an increase in sales of 3.2 percent. For 2025, the board of directors expects an almost constant level in sales, despite the challenges that the company is driving.

sales in detail

In the first quarter of 2025, the Röchling Group achieved revenues of 662 million euros, an increase of 34 million euros compared to the same period last year. This development is regarded by Röchling , despite the dwindling revenue in the automotive industry. It is reported that sales from the automotive division was 303 million euros in the first quarter of 2025, while plant closures in Germany and China were announced.

market development and outlook

The challenges affect not only Röchling, but the entire plastic industry in Germany. Numerous companies, from mechanical engineers to recycling companies, are active in this area. According to Statista The sales of the companies in this industry in 2021 were just under 85 billion euros.

The main areas of application of plastics are varied- from packaging to construction and automotive industry to medical technology. Germany is in research and development as well as in foreign trade with plastics in Europe. Despite the current difficulties, there are positive signals for the future: The board of Röchling is optimistic about the possibility of a market recovery from the second half of 2025, which brings hope for the industry and the employees of the Röchling Group.

The plastic industry therefore faces challenges, but also with opportunities. With a good hand in product development and the right investments, the situation could improve quickly. The only question remains how quickly this turnaround will be implemented and whether companies like Röchling can create the turn.
