Wertheim: pioneers of the AI revolution in municipal administration!

The city of Wertheim in Baden-Württemberg has established itself as a nationwide pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence (AI). In collaboration with the Speechmind software company, an innovative program was developed that revolutionized the logging of meetings. This software recently received the coveted "Proven on site" seal in the "Administration of Tomorrow" category, awarded by the German Association of Cities and Municipalities in Berlin. This not only recognizes Wertheim's pioneering role, but also pursues the goal of making successful municipal solutions more visible and promoting their distribution, such as Main-echo reported.

The special award was awarded as part of the local congress of the German Cities and Community Association, in which around 800 participants, including numerous mayors and mayors, discussed the central challenges of local politics. Among the guest speakers was also Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who spoke to those present about the future of municipal administration.

efficiency increase through innovative technology

The software used by Wertheim creates a preliminary draft of the protocol from a sound recording, which is then checked and reworked by the administration. The increase in efficiency is remarkable: compared to the old method, in which sessions were recorded with the laptop, the use of AI leads to a time saving of impressive 50 to 60 percent. This successful implementation has moved the Wertheim municipal council to decide on the permanent use of the AI software and even change the rules of procedure in order to integrate the technology in the long term, as municipality 21.

But the city administration of Wertheim goes far beyond pure logging with its innovative approach. The demographic change and the associated challenges in public administration require new solutions. Artificial intelligence can help to take on routine tasks and thus relieve the employees. This creates more space for strategic activities. Citizens expect their administrations to have a high degree of service orientation and transparency, which can be improved by the use of AI, as in the article at municipality of Digital Forum.

The challenges of digitization

Nonetheless, the implementation of AI in the administration also brings her challenges. In addition to the technical aspects, legal and ethical questions must also be clarified. The EU-wide AI Act offers a legal framework and pursues a risk-based approach for the use of AI. Particularly high -risk systems need special safety precautions to ensure data protection. It is crucial here that administrations establish clear standards and training for employees in order to use the technology safely and effectively.

With the successful test run of the AI software, Wertheim has proven a good knack and could thus become a model for other municipalities that want to introduce similar technologies. The city shows that the challenges of modern administration can be mastered through innovative approaches and the courage to change. The award could be the beginning of a broader movement towards a digitized administration in Germany.
