Audi extends combustion production: New strategy for Neckarsulm!

Neckarsulm, Deutschland - The automobile manufacturer Audi is located in an exciting transition phase at the Neckarsulm location. The CEO Gernot Döllner has thrown the strategy of his predecessor, Markus Duesmann, over the pile: Audi Plans to continue selling vehicles with internal combustion engines than was originally planned. The end of the production of burners, previously considered for 2033, is now uncertain and is made dependent on developments in the world markets. This turn comes at a time when the European Union is planning to no longer allow new cars with gasoline or diesel drive to be allowed from 2035, such as SWR reported.

The changes in the corporate strategy do not only take place on the upper floors. The works council at the Neckarsulm site is positive about the simultaneous production of combustion engines and electric models. Audi has also launched a model offensive and is planning to launch 20 new vehicles on the market by the end of the year, including more than ten that are purely electrical. The new models A5 and A6 have already started, which shows that momentum is coming back into production in Neckarsulm.

adaptation to new realities

But that's not all. Audi is actively investing in the future of the location. A fund of 300 million euros for electromobility should support the renovation. The number of production points for pure electric vehicles will increase in the coming years, with the training of employees for the new technologies also on the agenda. This is hand in hand with the aim of becoming the leading location for digital production in the region by 2025, such as echo24 reported.

in Neckarsulm is already being worked on the e-tron GT, while the production of the Q4 Etron is running in Zwickau. The location sees itself central to the production of plug-in hybrids, the production of which is to be set by 2030. The digitization of the production processes is becoming increasingly important, and Audi is planning to actively use the IT cluster Heilbronn to develop innovative digital solutions.

EU in the focus of the mobility transition

In the context of the changing automotive industry, the EU's commitment is also important. In a strategic dialogue under the direction of Ursula von der Leyen, innovation and the transition to clean mobility are on the agenda. The development of autonomous vehicles and the robustness of the European supply chains for batteries are central topics. The need to reduce bureaucratic hurdles is also discussed in order to strengthen the competitiveness of local automobile manufacturers - an aspect that could be of central importance for Audi, such as Transparency Showed.

It remains to be seen how the automotive industry will develop in the coming years and what role Audi can play. In any case, the course is set with the new plans, and Neckarsulm could establish itself as a key location in the period of electromobility and digitization.
