Participate and help shape: Now apply for the Sal of the University of Heidelberg!
In Heidelberg there are exciting news for all students! The Student Council (Stura) of the University of Heidelberg has Announced that from October 1, 2025, four student members and as many deputies are sought for the Senate Committee on Teaching (SAL). This is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to bring and design their voice in the university system. The term of office of the new members runs until September 30, 2026, and the application deadline ends on Friday before a Stura meeting, but at the latest on July 1, 2025 to be able to start on time.
What exactly does the SAL actually do? The committee is an important organ of the Senate, which deals with relevant topics related to examination, study and approval regulations as well as course-related fees. Modern teaching, especially aspects such as e-learning and the design of exam formats, also fall into its area of responsibility. It is an advantage here if candidates already have experience in university groups or student councils. Teensing and a good knack for reading and preparing these regulations are essential!
the sal at a glance
- Chair: Vice -Rector for Teaching and Studies.
- Conference rhythm: every five weeks, currently in the form of video conferences.
- Total members: 4 student and 4 deputy members, plus professional members.
A look at the internal structures shows that the sal is well mixed. In addition to student members, the committee also brings together a number of professors from various specialist areas such as computer science, economy and design so that all perspectives flow into the decision -making process. This gives the students the opportunity to actively participate in the design of teaching content and forms of examination. But what about the turnout? Studies have shown that this is often less than 10 percent. This shows how important the student representative in university policy actually is and how much it depends on the fact that students are committed to securing their participation.
If you are interested in mixing in the Senate Committee on Teaching, don't hesitate! The exchange with the current SAL members and the Lele department is a valuable step. The AK Lele meets every second Monday from 8:00 p.m. in the Stura office or by video conference. Here interested parties can learn more about the tasks and challenges in the committee and take the first step into university policy.
