Great fire destroys the old town of Schorndorf: nine homeless people and millions!

In early Tuesday morning, a devastating fire at Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße 14 in Schorndorf caused massive damage. The fire was already well advanced when the fire brigade was alerted at 7:15 a.m. The keyword "collapse and explosion" indicated a dramatic situation that quickly became aware of it. According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten were a total of 140 firefighters, 40 Rescue services and 14 police officers in action, supported by a police helicopter, to combat the flames and to evacuate the surrounding buildings.

The situation became even more difficult because the affected residential and commercial building, in which nine people became homeless, may be at risk of collapse. The first reports show that the facade and the roof have largely collapsed and the building seems almost completely burned out. The mayor Bernd Hornikel was on site to talk to those affected and to plan support for the homeless companies.

The amount of damage is estimated at several million euros. In the neighborhood of the affected house, a restaurateur, Mohamad Dawara, wants to open an ice cream parlor. It is still uncertain whether the explosion affects its plans.
