Early on Tuesday morning, a devastating fire at Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße 14 in Schorndorf caused massive damage. The fire was already well advanced when the fire department was alerted at 7:15 a.m. The keyword “collapse and explosion” suggested a dramatic situation, which quickly became true. According to Stuttgarter Nachrichten a total of 140 firefighters, 40 emergency services and 14 police officers were in the area Operation, supported by a police helicopter, to fight the flames and evacuate the surrounding buildings.

Injuries and evacuations
A total of seven people were injured in the major fire. These included one seriously and one moderately injured person, while five other people suffered minor injuries. The fire brigade received the alarm about the explosion and the impending danger of collapse in time so that something worse could be prevented.
The extinguishing work continued until around 10 a.m. when the fire brigade was finally successful in extinguishing the fire. The smoke was visible from afar and affected the air quality in the area, resulting in Gmünder Straße being closed for several hours.
Investigation into the cause of the fire

The amount of damage is estimated at several million euros. A restaurateur, Mohamad Dawara, wants to open an ice cream parlor in the neighborhood of the affected house. It is currently uncertain whether the explosion will affect his plans.
