Norris tower over in training: Best time in front of the Canada GP!

Montreal, Kanada - Today, on June 14, 2025, the last Formula 1 training session before qualifying at the Grand Prix of Canada for exciting headlines. Lando Norris von McLaren outlined with a best time of 1: 11.799 minutes, making it clear from the competition. Only 0.078 seconds separated him from Charles Leclerc, who landed in second place for Ferrari. In third place, George Russell from Mercedes followed with a deficit of 0.151 seconds, which underlines the high performance density in competition.

not everything went smoothly on the track. Oscar Piatri, the current World Cup leader, provided a red flag after touching the notorious Wall of Champions with his right rear tire and damaging his vehicle. Despite this setback, Piatri was able to continue the session later and finally ended up in eighth place. This wall, which is known for many famous accidents of world champions such as Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, again demanded their toll, but this time without serious consequences.

A look at the top performances

In the first 30 minutes of the training, it was possible without major incidents. Max Verstappen, who triumphed in Montreal in the past three years and ended in fifth place, remains a hot candidate for victory. However, he is under pressure with 49 points behind Piatri, which leads in the overall ranking. Piatri currently has a lead of ten points on Norris. Nico Hülkenberg, who did not show a glossy performance with the 18th place, also looks at a difficult weekend.

  • Top 5 of free training:
    • 1. Lando Norris (McLaren) - 1: 11.799
    • 2. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) - +0.078
    • 3. George Russell (Mercedes) - +0,151
    • 4. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
    • 5. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Qualifying in Montreal begins at 10 p.m. (CEST) and the tension could not be greater. Many wonder whether Norris can also confirm its good shape in qualifying or whether Piatri will strike back. While the pressure on the driver teams increases, it remains to be seen which strategy the teams choose and how the drivers will beat in this decisive phase of the season.

Already in this early phase of the season it is becoming apparent that we will experience an exciting hunt. It is only to be hoped that all drivers will get through the weekend without an accident and offer us a gripping race.
