New pedestrian round in Schorndorf: comfortable and barrier -free!
in Schorndorf a lot is happening when it comes to safe and pleasant mobility for pedestrians. Recent improvements were recently implemented on the station forecourt that pave the way for barrier -free coincidence. The city has thus realized the first of three focus measures from the foot traffic check 2023
As part of these measures, the passage for pedestrians in the direction of the lower market square was redesigned. This is now not only two meters wide, but also a barrier -free, which is particularly important in order to meet the high pedestrian volume. The space was also visually upgraded: planters were installed to keep the passage clearly and to improve the ambience. This step is part of a more comprehensive project that is promoted by the Ministry of Transport Baden-Württemberg to create attractive city centers and optimize the foot traffic infrastructure.
insights into the project
The foot traffic check was launched to sustainably improve the conditions for walking in Schorndorf. As one of twelve awarded municipalities, Schorndorf has successfully applied for participation in this project. The aim is to cover 30 percent of the paths on foot by 2030 - an ambitious but necessary requirement that ensures a good infrastructure without obstacles. Such a commitment not only promotes quality of life, but also the retail and the local economy in the city.
The foot traffic check consists of four central building blocks: a kick-off workshop in which project history and topics are discussed, two inspections for the analysis of the pedestrian situation, as well as the development of solutions for recognized problems. The final workshop presents the results that are documented in a comprehensive report and propose a total of 16 measures to improve the walking in Schorndorf.
proximity to sustainable mobility
The efforts in Schorndorf are also in line with larger initiatives for sustainable city mobility, as presented in the Environmental Bundesamt . A large number of measures- from improving cycling and foot traffic infrastructure to the optimization of public transport- help to create a low-noise and emission city. The vision for the future not only provides for a relocation to coincidence and cycling, but also the expansion of transportation that is environmentally friendly.
With a clear focus on pedestrians and the promotion of local structures, Schorndorf shows that it has a good hand when it comes to urban development. This ensures that foot traffic is not just an alternative, but an integral part of urban life. And so Schorndorf once again demonstrates that it sometimes only needs a small step - or just a broad sidewalk - to improve the quality of life of a city.
