Professor Ruhland opens the click maker shop: IT meeting point in Horrheim!
Digitization is on everyone's lips, and in Horrheim there is now a new place to devote itself to the topic more intensively. On June 14, 2025, Bernd Ruhland, a retired computer scientist, opens the click maker shop at Klosterbergstrasse 30. To bring people in the region closer to the digital world and to support them in their IT challenges. The shop has found its home in a former hairdressing salon and will be an open meeting point for all tech -loving and technology -virgin heads.
Ruhland can look back on an impressive career. In 1985 he completed his computer science studies at the University of Stuttgart and worked for many years at the DRK, where he was responsible for the IT supported service for older people. He also headed the development department of a software company and volunteered at Pro Familia. In 2010 there was a call to the Worms University of Applied Sciences, where he looked after computer science students until February 2025 before he had pendulum problems.
Various offers in the click maker shop
In the click maker shop, no fixed curricula or fabric plans are offered. Instead, the offer is fully based on the wishes of the customers. The computer courses and workshops offered focus on individual problem solutions, so that everyone receives the support they need. In addition, the shop will also offer a room for exchange about current IT issues.
A special commitment also shows Ruhland through the collection and repair of old laptops. These are not only used in the courses, but also passed on to a school project in Ghana and to needy people in the area. An important step to make digital assistance in the region and at the same time make a contribution to education in other parts of the world.
awareness of digital risks
But with digitization there are also dark sides that Ruhland draws attention to. The increase in cyber attacks is an urgent topic that was also discussed in his previous job at the Worms University of Applied Sciences. There he gave lectures on cyber security issues and the importance of conscious handling of smart home devices. These security issues are also the content of cooperation with the Worms business juniors who organize numerous events on the campus to point out the challenges of the digital world.
digitization harbors opportunities, but also risks. In order to achieve an overview of the necessary skills, a project was launched in 2019 that deals with the digital competence of the population. This project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, has examined over 100 studies and provides the results in a searchable database. This shows what requirements the digital transformation places to society and how it can be sensibly addressed in order to provide suitable educational offers for all generations.
The opening of the click maker shop begins on June 14th at 2 p.m. Bernd Ruhland is looking forward to numerous guests and a lively exchange about the digital world. It remains exciting to see how the shop will develop and what impulses it can set for the region.
