Geislingen celebrates friendship: young people rave about Urban Day!

Geislingen an der Steige, Deutschland - This year the Geislinger delegation will travel to Montceau-les-Mînes, France from July 4th to 6th, 2025 to take part in the "Urban Day". Among other things, international competitions for skaters, BMX drivers and urban talents are held at this urban sports and cultural event. Five young people from the Geislinger Skate Park Association - Kathrin, Linus, Luca, David and Cheyenne - represent the city and show their skills on the big stage.

they are accompanied by Pia Hawranek, the chairman of the Geislingen e.V. skate park, Sven Renken, the chairman of the Stadtjugendring Geislingen e.V., as well as Melanie and Holger Schrag. The latter is officially represented by the city of Geislingen as the volunteer of the mayor Ignazio Ceffalia, who emphasizes the role of young people in the town twinning and the associated European thoughts.

cultural exchange in focus

The event, which was launched with great enthusiasm in 2022, attracts numerous young people every year. Participation in the Urban Day is free and aims to promote the community, youth culture and sporting movement. This time, the exchange with the local hosts and upcoming joint activities are particularly the focus.

Discussions with the city administration of Montceau-les-Mînes are also planned to better organize future encounters. This is intended to prepare a visit by French young people in Geislingen in autumn 2025. In addition to the sports spirit, this initiative emphasizes the important role of Franco-German friendship that builds on peaceful coexistence in Europe.

importance of the city partnership

The municipal partnership is not only a friendly exchange, but also a platform for promoting dialogue and commitment among the citizens. Holger Schrag emphasizes the key role of youth for the future of this friendship and demands more commitment in the cooperation between the cities.

financing for such municipal partnerships are mostly acquired through funding, and there are various programs of the European Union and the federal government that support innovative and valuable projects that benefit the exchange. An example of this is the Franco-German voluntary service, which offers young people the opportunity to volunteer in the partner municipalities and to complete a voluntary year in the administration.

Overall, the Urban Day 2025 promises to once again become a highlight for the young people of both cities. Whether in the sun or rain, the enthusiasm and will to participate remains unbroken, as was the case at the last event in July 2024, despite adverse weather conditions.
