Kirchheim-Jesingen: The first colorful Lego ramp makes café barrier-free!
In Kirchheim-Jesingen, a truly creative and colorful project got rolling: Here the first ramp from Lego bricks in the Esslingen district was inaugurated. In front of the popular Café bakery Mayer, the ramp now attracts everyone and enables wheelchair users, people with walkers and parents with strollers to enter the café without hurdles. A real profit for accessibility!
The ramp that overcomes a height difference of 17 centimeters consists of over 10,000 colorful lego bricks and was built in a joint action. Jürgen Baur, a committed wheelchair user, tested the construction and praised it for her functionality and security. "It is nice to see that you can participate in such projects," he said.
a project of the community
The construction of the ramp began in September 2024, after Rita Ebel, who is known as 'Lego Maver', began to donate Lego bricks. The response to their initiative was impressive: in a short time, numerous stones were given in the town hall, in the bakery and in collective boxes. EBEL, who have been donating ramps from legislative stones for six years and would like to distribute shops all over Germany, have already created 140 ramps in various countries, including Italy, Austria and France. She works closely with her daughter Melanie.
"We want to refer to barriers with our colorful ramps and promote inclusion," explains the 64-year-old. Rita has been in a wheelchair since a car accident 27 years ago and knows from his own experience how important accessibility is.
accessibility in the focus
In Germany, around 13 million people live with impairments who are often faced with barriers who make them difficult for them a self -determined life. These barriers not only affect wheelchair users, but also older people and families with children. The topic of accessibility is of great social importance and is also promoted by the federal government about the "Federal Initiative Accessibility". This initiative aims to reduce obstacles in everyday life and to introduce extensive legislative measures.
rita Ebel hopes that your legor ramp in Kirchheim-Jesingen not only offers practical help, but also serves as an impetus to raise awareness of the need for accessibility. Your next goal? The construction of other ramps for which there are enough stones, even if there are no concrete plans yet.
With this innovative ramp, another step is taken towards a more inclusive society. The project shows that sometimes it is the smallest things that can make a big difference - and that it can be moved a lot in the community.
