World record in Herrenberg: Become part of the biggest living wind turbine!

In Herrenberg something happens: On June 29, 2025 at 3 p.m., the region tries to break a world record. The aim is to form the "largest lively wind turbine in the world" by forming several hundred people together a dynamic wind turbine silhouette. This should not only be a sign of wind power, but also strengthen local citizen participation. According to the previous record of 260 people, which was set up in Vienna in 2017, the organizers are confident that they can start with a wide range of participants.  Stuttgarter News reports on the exciting event organized by various wind power initiatives.

A test run on the Herrenberg Festwiese took place in advance, in which almost 30 participants rehearsed the implementation of the idea. A system of ropes was developed that ensures the optimal shape and distances of the "rotor blades". As the organizers emphasize, the Herrenberger wind turbine should not be static. The participants will be in motion and thus simulate a real rotor. A little choreography will also be necessary to facilitate the passage between the groups and to ensure a smooth process.

a supporting program for big and small

On the day of the event, a colorful supporting program will attract visitors from 1 p.m. There is something for the whole family from games to food to drinks and live music. In order to move as many people as possible to the event, cycling star trips from different starting points are also planned. This is intended to help shape the largest possible and lively wind turbine.

The event is supported by the initiatives of the Zwünder Herrenberg, Pro Windkraft Neckar-Alb, Windkraft BB and some others. Klaus Weingärtner from Bigwind Herrenberg emphasizes the importance of the campaign: "We want to show how important citizen participation is and that each of us can be part of the energy transition." Regional energy cooperatives, such as a local with 40,000 members, already offer participation models that enable citizens an annual dividend and discounts on green electricity.  The SWP also emphasizes that this is an important step to promote sustainable energies in the region is.

Anyone who invests in citizen participation benefits

There are numerous opportunities for citizen participation for those interested. As the organization EEECO explains, numerous guidelines for financial citizenship participations for wind and solar parks have been published in recent years. This is about practical options for project providers, municipal utilities and municipalities to better address citizens and to give insights into the possibilities of energy generation. Class = "Source_3"> This could also be of interest to the Herrenberger initiatives to further advance their projects in the region.

The world record attempt on June 29 will not only be a spectacle for the citizens, but also a great opportunity to find out about the possibilities of wind power and citizen participation. Strengthening awareness of renewable energies is more important today than ever - a wind turbine of people could be an impressive sign.
